The 21-year-old striker believes the Baggies head coach is helping him stay focused on the pitch, after a string of off-field controversies threatened to derail his season.

Berahino was banned from driving after pleading guilty to drink driving in January and then dropped from the team just weeks later, having given an unsanctioned interview in which he spoke of leaving the Hawthorns for a "bigger club".

But the 18-goal frontman insists he has a strong relationship with Pulis and talks to him regularly.

"For me personally he (Pulis) has always kept me on the straight and narrow, the straight road and just tried to make me focus on my football," he said.

"Everyone knows how Tony Pulis is as a person. I would say he is a bit old school but his old school works."

Pulis described Berahino as being in the "naughty chair" in the aftermath of his interview controversy, a statement the striker admits to raising a smile about.

"I laughed," he said. "I did not think I was in any naughty chair.

"We have good one-to-one chats together and I think it was just an expression he had."
