Chris Brunt believes he can be the permanent solution to West Brom's left-back problem as boss Tony Pulis prepares for a summer revamp of his squad.

The former Baggies captain says he is learning all the time after being switched to a full-back role by Pulis.

He's playing his part in back-to-back clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

And the Northern Irishman says he is enjoying his new role, despite laughing off Opta statistics that made him Europe's top left-back in the weekend of the Palace win.

He joked: "I don't know about that. I don't know who does those stats. I think that will be the only time I ever get in the same team as Lionel Messi!

"When you're part of the back four and you get a clean sheet it's enjoyable and over the last eight years it's not something I've been too concerned about.

"Obviously, it's always nice to get clean sheets but doing it as part of the back four is really enjoyable.

"I will do whatever I can to help out and if the gaffer sees me as a left back then I will get my head down and get on with it.

"It's worked out reasonably well over the last few weeks. I have enjoyed it reasonably well and we will see what happens."

Brunt has earned plaudits from fans for his recent displays at left-back and looks set to remain there for the remainder of the season.

And he has hinted he would be happy to remain in the back four, saying: "I wouldn't be playing there if the gaffer didn't think I could do it.

"It's something I've done a few times before, including in international football, so it's something I'm comfortable with.

"But you're never too old to learn in this game and I'm still learning stuff every week.

"You get used to playing in midfield for x-amount of years and then you get thrown in at left-back, you've got to learn to swim again but it's been good.

"I've got the experienced boys alongside me in, Joleon Lescott and Gareth McAuley. And we've got Ben Foster or Boaz Myhill behind us."
