Steven Gerrard hailed before last Albion visit
West Brom assistant boss Dave Kemp has hailed Steven Gerrard as Liverpool's greatest ahead of the former England captain's final Hawthorns appearance.
Gerrard is due to face the Baggies for the final time on Saturday before leaving Anfield at the end of the season to join LA Galaxy.
And Baggies No.2 Kemp is in no doubt where the 34-year-old sits in the list of Liverpool greats.
"He's not only a fantastic player but, from talking to people of my age I know who watch Liverpool and have watched many great players perform for them, you ask them 'who's the best Liverpool player ever' and they all say Steven Gerrard.
"I take that into account quite frankly because they've had a lot of great players down the years. So that's quite a statement."
Gerrard's dream of ending his Reds career with FA Cup glory on his 35th birthday was ended on Sunday when Villa won their semi-final.
But Kemp insists failing to land a trophy in his final season will not diminish Gerrard's standing on Merseyside, saying: "Steven Gerrard is a great player, full stop."
"People might have written him off just because he played in the FA Cup semi-final and they lost and all of a sudden, the world has turned upside down.
"He's been a great player for Liverpool and if this is his last game here, then he's had a fantastic career and been a fantastic player."
