West Brom boss Tony Pulis reckons Saido Berahino should be honoured by his England Under-21 call-up despite being axed from the senior squad.

The Baggies' in-form hitman has lost his place in the full squad despite netting 18 goals this season and four in his last seven appearances.

Berahino and Rickie Lambert lost out to Tottenham's Harry Kane and fit-again Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, but the Baggies forward is in the under-21s squad to face Czech Republic and Germany.

Pulis said: "I haven't spoken to him about it. I haven't got a clue. I think if he gets selected for the Under-21s that's a big honour in itself.

"The lad's been very good lately in his attitude and his approach to everything we have done has been excellent.

"He's not said anything to me about it. He has been carrying an injury for the past few weeks but has still shown great character."

Berahino has spoken of his desire to represent England at this summer's Under-21s European Championships in Czech Republic.

Pulis said: "I think England should pick their strongest team for every proper tournament bur Roy will always have a young player who he think is ready for the senior squad."

Berahino (foot) and strike partner Brown Ideye (knee) are both facing late fitness tests for tomorrow's game at Manchester City, while defender Jonas Olsson (calf) is also a doubt.

Chris Brunt and Claudio Yacob are both missing through suspension.
