West Brom players confident in Boaz Myhill

West Brom's players today backed stand-in goalkeeper Boaz Myhill to help them clinch Premier League safety after No 1 Ben Foster was ruled out for a month.

Foster will be sidelined for at least four weeks after scans revealed he damaged knee cartilage during Saturday's 1-0 win over Stoke.

But former captain Chris Brunt and current skipper Darren Fletcher say ex-Wales keeper Myhill is ready to fill Foster's gloves as the Baggies look to make certain of their top-flight place.

"Boaz is a top goalkeeper and a top professional as well," said Brunt. "He looks after himself and works hard in training.

"It's different when you're a goalkeeper. It's black or white. You're either playing or you're not playing and Bo knows that Ben is the first-choice goalkeeper and supports him really well.

"He works hard with him and the two of them get on really well together.

"It's great for us when someone of Ben's stature needs to drop out that we've got someone as good as Bo to replace him."

Myhill stepped off the bench to replace Foster on Saturday, after starting the FA Cup quarter-final loss at Villa.

That came following Foster's stoppage-time howler which cost the Baggies the Premier League game at Villa Park five days earlier.

Fletcher said: "We were hoping it wasn't too bad. Ben's been in fantastic form for us. He'd had a fantastic season, but credit to Bo as well.

"He came on and did brilliantly. There was even a diving header in there! He performed well and dealt with a lot of Stoke corners."

Foster is likely to miss Albion's games against Manchester City, Queens Park Rangers, Leicester and Crystal Palace as well as England's Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and the friendly in Italy.

Young goalkeeper Jack Rose is expected to step up to the bench as Myhill's understudy.

Head coach Tony Pulis said: "It's rotten news for Ben because he's been so consistent.

"He kept seven clean sheets in 10 games but we have a very able man to step forward in Boaz, who has performed well when he's come into the team.

"We've got the international break coming up which I hope will give our medical team the chance to work on Ben's rehab and we will reassess later."
