The former Albion man succeeds sacked Steven Pressley and will take control immediately.

The 51-year-old took Albion into the Premier League in 2008 and reached an FA Cup semi-final in the same season.

Despite being relegated to the Championship the following year, Mowbray was still highly thought of by many fans before leaving to take charge of Celtic.

Chief executive Steve Waggott said, "We've secured the services of a highly-rated, experienced candidate.

"Tony is a manager who has enjoyed plenty of success at a higher level.

"He has experience in coming into a club in challenging times and steering them through to safety and, on top of that, has enjoyed promotion too."
