Boss Tony Pulis has hailed Saido Berahino for rolling up his sleeves for Albion – and insisted Stephane Sessegnon can be a match-winner.

Berahino has been praised for buying into Pulis's methods as he targets a second England call-up for next month's games against Lithuania and Italy.

And the Baggies boss insists Sessegnon still has a big role to play despite struggling to hold down a regular place.

"I'm more concerned about Saido scoring goals for West Bromwich Albion than England," said Pulis.

"Roy Hodgson picks the England team and the England squad and if he thinks that it is right to play him, that's brilliant. If he doesn't, I won't go against Roy's view.

"We have been really pleased with his form. Last week at Sunderland wasn't a great performance.

"But if you look at his running stats and what he did for the team off the ball, I think he's got it in his mind now that even if he is not in possession of the ball we need him to be in certain areas at certain times to keep the team nice and compact."

Sessegnon has started just two of Pulis's six Premier League games in charge after the new boss opted for Berahino and Brown Ideye in attack, with January signing Callum McManaman emerging as his first-choice winger.

But Pulis insists the Benin international could still emerge as a key figure in the final 12 games of the season.

"Sess is the type of player every club needs whether you start with him or bring him off the bench," he said.

"He can do stuff that can win games. We've chopped and changed and moved things around, but he's got the talent to change games and you always need that."

Meanwhile, former Baggies scout Tony Spearing has joined ex-Hawthorns boss Steve Clarke at Reading.

Spearing, Albion's senior European scout, left The Hawthorns earlier this season in a shake-up that also saw the departure of Stuart White, who has since joined Burnley.

Clarke said: "Tony was a valued member of my staff at West Bromwich Albion and, when he became available after a backroom shuffle there, I was delighted that I could persuade him to come and work for me at Reading FC.

"He has an extensive knowledge of European players."

Spearing added: "I am delighted to join Reading and it was an honour to be asked to rejoin my former manager."
