Brown Ideye: Loss was due to over-confidence

Club-record signing Brown Ideye claims "over-confidence" was to blame as West Brom threw away a 2-0 lead to lose at Queens Park Rangers.

The Baggies were beaten 3-2 despite leading 2-0 through Joleon Lescott and Silvestre Varela's first goals for the club.

And Ideye, who started for the second successive game, believes Alan Irvine's men got carried away with their first-half lead.

"We are very disappointed about the result," said Ideye. "We really had the game won in the first half.

"We had the pattern and I guess that we were over-confident in thinking that we already won the game.

"I think it was down to over-confidence as we started very well and we just lost in the last minutes."

Ideye, who gave an improved all-round display but missed chances to open his Premier League account, claimed the players and boss Alan Irvine were "angry" at the manner of Saturday's defeat.

But he urged his team-mates to move on quickly from the give-away at Loftus Road with title-chasing Manchester City due at the Hawthorns on Boxing Day.

"He (Irvine) was angry and everyone was angry about the result," said Ideye. "We are not happy with a result like that after scoring two goals.

"I guess we have to just move on and try to forget about this now. All the players were disappointed but we have more important games to play.

"To stay up we have to forget about this game and change our mentality to look forward to other games.

"We lost control of the game, we had the game locked down in the first half."

Varela's goal to cap another good performance was one of the bright spots of Albion's weekend and Ideye said: "I am happy for him. He is a great player.

"He has proved himself in the past two games. But if we lose we lose as a team. If we win we win as a team.

"So I guess it was just one of those bad days and we have to forget about the defeat and move on."
