West Brom boss Alan Irvine is poised to hand £10million club-record signing Brown Ideye a big derby-day chance against Villa at the Hawthorns tomorrow.

The Nigeria international is standing by for his first Premier League start since September, if Victor Anichebe fails to shake off a groin injury.

Leading scorer Saido Berahino is also in line to return against Villa, after being left out of last weekend's goalless draw at Hull City.

Ideye has made just two league starts since his big-money move from Dynamo Kiev, but Irvine said: "He's much closer now than he's been previously and he's looking as if he's ready to play a part.

"Brown is working really hard. He had a period where he felt a bit low and wondered how he would get into the team but he has increased the way he worked.

"He came in and things were fine, he got thrown in too quickly and would have benefited from having a slower build-up.

"He then got injured and that set him back even further and it's been a long way back for him but in the last couple of weeks he's looked much sharper."

Ideye scored twice in a behind-closed-doors win against Northampton Town on Tuesday, in a game that also featured midfielder Silvestre Varela.
