Keeper Ben Foster today insisted Albion's players will fight for under-pressure boss Alan Irvine as he began the countdown to Saturday's crunch derby showdown with Villa.

Irvine faces a potential make-or-break clash with the Baggies' local rivals at The Hawthorns after ending a run of four straight defeats with Saturday's drab goalless draw at Hull.

And Foster says the whole squad is behind the Scot, who dropped leading scorer Saido Berahino and recalled defender Gareth McAuley at the KC Stadium and was subjected to more criticism from unhappy fans.

The keeper said: "He made a few changes and I think it worked.

"The formation and team selection really does work for us. We are all battling for the gaffer.

"He is a great guy, we all really like him, we all get on well with him. You hear a few murmurings in the press and we are trying to pay no attention to it.

"We all want the gaffer to be here as long as possible. Saturday was not a classic but it is a start for us. On the back of four defeats, it was important to keep a clean sheet and then get something from the game.

"It is a tough place to go. We are all really talking about the season starting from here."
