Striker Victor Anichebe has challenged Albion to "come back fighting" against table-topping Chelsea after yesterday's dire defeat to Newcastle.

The Baggies were beaten 2-0 by the Magpies and now face a two-week break before returning to action at Stamford Bridge.

And Anichebe, who was recalled to the starting line-up yesterday, has urged fans and players to keep the loss in perspective.

"Everyone is really down," he said. "We've been on such a high recently and even in this game, I thought, for large parts we were really good.

"But they got a goal just before half-time and then another goal at a really pivotal time so we're pretty down but hopefully after the international break we can come back fighting and get back to where we should be.

"We want to come back and show what we can do but during the international break we can go away and refresh and then come back fighting.

"You can't deny we have been on a good run lately so we can't really be too down but we weren't at our best, which is disappointing.

"We just have to carry on fighting. We have to let this game go and have a good break and get some good training in.

"When we get closer to the Chelsea game we will look at it but for now we should just appreciate the good run of form we've had and hopefully when we come back we can continue it."

And Anichebe was adamant the Baggies' display against Alan Pardew's in-form side was not all bad.

"Newcastle scored goals at crucial points but in the first half they didn't do too much," said the Nigeria international. "We just found it hard to get back after their second goal.

"I had a couple of half-chances and Saido (Berahino) had a couple but it just wasn't to be.

"That's how football is and hopefully when we come back we can be better.

"We've got hard fixtures but with the manager we've got we will be ready for them."
