Irvine's men will take on a United side boasting almost £200million worth of signings from the last two transfer windows, as the Sky Sports cameras visit the Hawthorns.

But the Scot, whose team have mounted a mini-resurgence after a tough start to his reign, is adamant they can match United at home.

His side have already beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane and pushing Liverpool hard at Anfield.

"We obviously respect Manchester United and we know they are a very good team who have got top players," he said.

"But we've got top players here too and players who are very honest, hard-working professionals, and who want to work as a team.

"And if we play to the best of our capabilities we are able to give any team in this league a game.

"United have got better and better as the season has gone on.

"They had a lot of disruption at their club, as we did, and I saw Louis van Gaal asking many times to be given time to sort things out.

"And the last couple of times I've seen them they have looked more like you would expect Manchester United to look.

"They're a good side, full of very exciting, dangerous players and it will be a very tough game for us.

"They will work the ball out and we've got to make sure they don't get moves started easily.

"We've got to be really well organised when we don't have the ball in order to stop them building these attacks.

"But one of the things we've spoken about is the need for us to be really good with the ball and not give it back really cheaply to players of the quality of Manchester United."

Irvine expects captain Chris Brunt to be available after he missed Northern Ireland's two Euro 2016 qualifiers last week with a groin injury.

Record £10m signing Brown Ideye (ankle) is also back while Irvine must make a decision at right-back.

Loanee Andre Wisdom is back in contention to challenge Cristian Gamboa, after being ineligible for the Liverpool clash.
