West Brom star Cristian Gamboa has warned right-back rival Andre Wisdom he is ready to fight for his "childhood dream" of facing Manchester United.

Baggies boss Alan Irvine faces a selection dilemma for the Hawthorns clash against United on October 20, with on-loan Wisdom available after being ineligible to face parent club Liverpool on Saturday.

But Gamboa performed well on his full Premier League debut at Anfield and is hoping to keep the right-back berth.

Gamboa has now linked up with Costa Rica for the game against Oman in Muscat on Friday and South Korea in Seoul next Tuesday.

He said: "Playing against Manchester United would be a dream I've had since I was a kid so, hopefully, I can play.

"It's difficult because Andre played in the first few games in the Premier League, but I enjoyed myself on Saturday.

"I will keep fighting for the spot and hoping I've done enough but the coach will have the final say. It's healthy that we have this battle.

"It's good to have someone there fighting with you for the spot. We have good right-backs and the final decision is down to the coach."

Gamboa caught the eye on Saturday with the pace that Irvine targeted in the summer transfer market.

And the 24-year-old believes he offered Baggies fans a glimpse of his style during a "dream" first league start on Merseyside.

He said: "It was really nice, especially because it came at Anfield so, for me, it was a dream come true.

"We didn't get the right result but we still played good football, and you always get the chance to bounce back so, hopefully, we can win against Manchester United."

"I tried to do what the club bought me for and I hope the fans enjoyed it. The result wasn't good but we played good football.

"Sometimes you play good football and lose, but football always pays you back."
