The Hawthorns hero, who regularly attends Baggies games alongside fans, believes more player appearances at independent supporters events would prevent a repeat of the ironic cheers recently directed at captain Chris Brunt when he was substituted.

Current Baggies players are usually only seen at official club functions but Taylor, who 113 goals in 324 league appearances for Albion, said: "Sometimes players need to get out and mix with the ordinary fans.

"We used to go to supporters club meetings all over the place and it really helps.

"We have seen recently a lad like Chris Brunt, who always works his socks off for the team and has been a great player, get some stick from some of the fans.

"If he was allowed by the club to meet the fans every now and then, I'm not sure that would happen."
