Berahino bagged his third and fourth Premier League goals of the season as Irvine's men thrashed Burnley 4-0 at The Hawthorns to claim their third win in a week.

That made him the highest scoring Englishman in the top flight this season and he was watched from the stands by England coaches Ray Lewington and Gary Neville plus FA head of elite development Dan Ashworth – the Baggies former technical director.

His second brace of the season came a year to the day that he netted his first Premier League goal to clinch a famous win at Old Trafford and Irvine said: "He is a talented young player. His movement for such a young player is very good.

"He was a wee bit frustrated at half time because he felt as if he had made runs and things hadn't quite come off. Fortunately he got that when it came to him just right and his second finish was great. He can finish with both feet and he is a great professional.

"I know that people have talked about problems in the past, I haven't seen a moment of that. He has been a pleasure to work with. And he has got a great future.

"If he keeps on playing like that and keeps on scoring goals he will get all the rewards. I don't think Roy Hodgson will be looking and saying 'he's too young', or anything like that. He will put him in, as he has shown already, if he feels he's the best player for the position. Right now Saido has just got to keep on working."
