Alan Irvine: West Brom started so badly

West Brom boss Alan Irvine admitted his side failed to recover from a nightmare start as they went down 3-0 at a rampant Swansea City.

Alan Irvine reacts to West Brom's Premier League defeat at Swansea City away from home in this interview above.

Albion were 1-0 down after 88 seconds at the Liberty Stadium and caved in twice more as they slid to the first league defeat of Irvine’s reign.

Nathan Dyer netted twice, either side of a stunner from Wayne Routledge. Jonas Olsson’s slip handed Dyer the opener and the Baggies responded with a dismal display.

Irvine said: “It couldn’t have been a worst start. You spend a week trying to get ready for the game, develop a game plan and then somebody slips.

“That can’t be legislated for. It makes what would have been a tough game an even tougher one. We certainly rocked by that and gave the ball away too cheaply, especially in the final third.

“When things were looking like they might settle down we made another mistake.

“Before you know it you’re 2-0 down and you’re standing on the side desperate for half-time to come because we needed to get in, regroup and help the players mentally, and make some adjustments.

“Full marks to the players because they responded well to that half-time break and made fewer unforced errors, kept the ball better and created some chances.

“Psychologically it’s difficult to react in the right way to that kind of start. There were only two changes from the Southampton game.

“But when somebody slips what can you do about that?

“It gave Swansea a boost.

“We spent the time in the dressing room prior to the game talking about how important a good start was – and we got the worst possible start.

“Having got back into the game we then made another error that was very costly.”

5 to the Albion

Appointing Irvine to manage a Premiership club was like asking Mr Magoo to drive an F1 car, the result in both cases will be a car crash, no good trying to turn the clock back to the Hodgson era, its gone, we need a decent proven manager, sorry Alan, your negative ways have no place in the modern game, the game has moved on whilst you were coaching Everton's kids.

Walthamstow Albion

fair points fella.

however...on to more important issues...our D1n5le neighbours have crawled from beneath their rocks and camped-out on an Albion board (acting like Subway wannabees) giving it the big-un while encapsulating everything 'small-time' and 'base-level' with their inane infatuation of another club, and accentuating a 'small-time' mentality that makes them one of the lowest and most loathed set of ahem 'fans' in England and the UK with the like of Millwall and Leeds.

Albion loose their first game in 4 and salivation and spittoon smothers their keyboards - how small time eh!

They brag about 'superiority while Chumping it in the Chumpionship... a shambles of a club going back to the 11-point chocker season and even before that with the arrogant money-solves-all nouveau riche vulgarity fostered during Hayward's golden t*t reign. How deluded they are and how 'refreshing' it is to have seen them playing Stevenage and Crawley last year. Karma they say...

Wolves fans have hated their own club for systematically failing them year after year after year - and still look at where they are now - Chumps scrambling to get out the Chumpionship. They can never work out where the clubs' failings lie and call for the heads of owners, managers, players year after year etc. Give it a few months...

Well done, they've now found your Chumpionship level and all is calm.

Albion have worked hard doing things the right way.

We got to the Prem with good team spirit, work ethic and good team-management (include Ashworth and Hodgson in the mix) rather than just a spend spend spend ala QPR and hope it works.

Last year was the first year Peace had taken his eye off the ball. And yes, Albion can be critisized for that but we aint down yet - this is our first defeat. And we are now where near the playing level of WWFC.

Circus you say...the Circus is down the A4123.

Y & H, whilst you may be thinking that your inane drivel on these forums is clever, it really is not.

Real West Midlands football fans have an excellent forum on the Express and Star web site devoted to their respective team,

possibly better than any in the country. I happen to enjoy the occasional comment `across the divide` aspects of the beautiful game, and Baggie fans have always been respectful when I have done so.

Your absurd, thoughtless and stupid remarks are in danger of reducing this site, and ours, into a trivial inentity whereby the E & S decide to terminate it.

Please, if you have a modicum of common sense between your ears.........use it !

You are quite correct in your observations, but, some of the responsibility must be down to a number of Baggies supporters,

They are true supporters, but who can not tolerate any form of or dissension or criticism of the Baggies, no matter how valid - - - and take the bait offered by some of your supporters.

Why do your lot do this - - - because they know they will get the response thy seek

The Real Bully Hoo.

Thanks Orlando for renewing my faith in human nature.

And may I ask our fans again to refrain from posting inane comments on the Wolves thread. Two wrongs don't make a right. It affects the decent fans over there not the idiots that spend more time on here. If you want to write anything derogatory about Wolves then do it on here because that's where the plonkers will see it.

And Kev. I am going to stop replying to the posts from the likes of Eldervo, Jackettinho and the twerp starting now. I hope others will follow suit. No need to say I told you so because I know you did and I hope you will stop replying to them as well.

I've only just cottoned on to this discussion as I've said before I ignore the vast majority of posts from Dingles and I take exception to you even thinking I would be so insensitive and self righteous too take any satisfaction from your comments LOL!

However I have taken exception to your final remark, which I might add is straight out of Cantello's battle strategy, "I hope you will as well"??????

As you well know my reply percentage pales into insignificance compared to the rest of Giuseppe's puppets.

I think you'll find that my infrequent replies are used too further my case, ie the classic the other day when Giuseppe replied "if I don't post they only ask where I am" or words of that nature, now I couldn't resist that one cause he was openly mocking yo lot for taking his bait, as the kind gentleman above as pointed out, my reply was to all his puppets as much as to Giuseppe.

As I say my retiring nature prevents me from taking any high ground on this but I must thank you for putting a smile, some may mistakenly call it a smirk, on my face this morning, an infrequent occurrence of late, thank's.

Orlando,

well said, Sir-

unfortunately you cannot reason with this idiot-

I really don't want to bore people again, but just briefly to allow you to make your own judgement-

he's posted on here EVERY single day for the last 2 years, using around 70 different names, mainly 'pretending' to be an Albion fan-

he's been caught out slipping up more than once, indicating that he probably gets all his info. off the internet, and doesn't actually go to Wolves games-

and what's REALLY disturbing is that I found out he's familiar with little known details of the inside of pubs that myself and other Baggies fans use, and has told us of unpublished things that's happening outside The Hawthorns before kick-off, that I've noticed, but hasn't been in the media - it looks like he's been spying on Albion fans on match day by mixing with us, then going back home to pretend being one!!!

Part of what he says on here appears relatively 'normal' thinking, but part of him's clearly mentally unbalanced - so don't expect a positive response.

Kev,

I made a response directly to Orlando to simply tell him my take on the issue he raised, but I somehow knew it wouldn't be long before you responded to me, because I seem to get your verdict on every post I submit these days-

of course you're entitled to reply to people if you wish, but it now appears to have doubled the content on the issue of this idiot, and given him the chance to stir things further if he thinks we're disagreeing with each other.

He keeps attaching himself to me and other posters, yet I haven't directly spoken to him for a long, long time-

Oh well, c'est la vie, eh.....??

Adeu.

Kev the Rev in LA

Cantello

Come on son? you know my replies are always made with humour and as a friend.

You also know that when I reply I couldn't give a flyin' chuck what the Wasp or any other Dingle thinks, incidentally neither should you for that matter and maybe that's part of the problem.

Before I go I respectfully remind you that, in your words, talking about him is the same as replying to him.

Adeu

CantelloRocket 78

Kev,

I think we just see it from different points of view, so I guess we can only agree to disagree-

as far as 'the wasp' is concerned, you believe he's 'pulling the strings', and unfortunately there's always a minimum of at least two or three that respond directly to him on each thread, which he obviously enjoys in his 'perverted' mind, as it's the nearest he's got to having friends - even though he actually wants to upset 'em-

From my personal angle, I was on the Baggies site posting daily a long time before he appeared, and this is where I stay, call it 'my home' if you want - and I'll talk to most people throughout the day-

now he has to travel over here on the no.75 Bus from dingleland every day from 6.00 a.m. till 11 p.m., often posting at least 20-25 times per day, and he repeatedly attaches himself to my 'bottom' trying every possible way to taunt and intimidate me - so he's committed his entire life for the last couple of years to try 'pushing a button' - and he'll never get that time back, he's literally wasted a large chunk of his life-

it's like a schoolkid running 100 yds up and down a street to keep knocking somebody's door - completely knackering himself to make somebody open that door!!!

I still don't believe he'll leave as long as Albion fans are using and reading the site - so I occasionally turn the tables and indirectly push his button instead, I know by now what he doesn't like, believe me.....

Whilst agreeing about this being an excellent forum. I cannot see a problem with youngand hungry and his taking the mickey out of us Albion supporters when we have a result and performance like we did yesterday. Lets face it. It has been such a long time since Wolves have had anything to shout about that now they are winning a few games( in a league lower i hasten to add) and we have lost our first league match of the season, then it is a reason for excitement. I say let him run wild it would be far more meaningful if it was off a Wolves fan who actually goes to games but he is entitled to his say regardless.

Of course most of what he says is always factually incorrect and if you point this out he will have said replies deleted but do as i do just read and understand that he knows next to nothing, that he will remove any replies he cannot take and will therefore seek out whom he considers to be an easy target.

Cowardly of course but i am surprised so many of you take anything he says remotely seriously. Even most Wolves fans are embarressed by him as you so rightly say but this does not and should not disallow him from his one pleasure it makes him in a small way feel like a real fan and lets be honest it is only a fan of Wolves not the Villa now they really could take the urine and it would actually mean something. Just ignore if you dont like what he says whilst i if he lets my replies go( i do know youngand hungry you have them deleted) will show him up for the fool he is.

Oh! crumbs

Speaking for myself the only reason I take exception to Dingles posting so often on Baggies sites is that Baggies fans reply too 'em.

That can take up to 75% of threads and the majority of them are designed too get Baggies dangling on a string and I suggest the Dingles take up fishing cause they would win every competition they entered.

Unlike some I won't bore you by putting forward the rest of my case as it's been aired many times, and may I say failed just as many.

inane drivel yes agreed, but we are all guilty of having a dig at each other on these forums and the worst one for this as we all know is a certain Jack The Hat ! I find most of his comments on our side of the forum a joke it's all banter and a bit of fun but there are certain nerks who try to take it too far such as the above mentioned. I for one wouldn't be surprised if Irvine lasts 3 months in the job and why Peace appointed him in the first place needs to be explained to your lot, i hope that you will survive another season in the prem so that battle can recommence next season, don't forget we owe you one from muppet micks time.

bob.williamsfindlay

Nothing to do with being 'loyal to the club'; if you want to make assumptions on Irvine's coaching ability based upon previous experience, that's up to you. I'd rather rely on evidence and judge, not prejudge, on what he does with the crop of players he has at the Albion.

I totally agree with Adam H - it is necessary to put everything into perspective. If Irvine has a full squad and things aren't working out, then people will be justified in questioning his and Terry Burton's appointments.

glassboy baggy

Isn't it funny how all the dingles are coming out of the woodwork now that they have won a couple of games and we have lost one .To a man I think they believe they have won promotion already but they are forgetting the one big handicap which is inherent in their supporters. As we have already seen this season after defeats to Rotherham and Northampton supporters were turning on each other . Last year when Orient and Brentford were at the top of the table these same supporters were calling for Kenny Jackets head ( as seen on this site ). Over the past 30 years when I have been to the Molineux ( never to support them )and things have been going bad, the animosity directed at their own players has been frightening . They never change and the same thing will happen again if they have a bad run . So I think it's just a case of waiting for the bubble to burst and watch this space . Boing Boing.

youngand hungry

glasseye I take it your not going to talk about the game then ?

CantelloRocket 78

Glassboy,

It reminds me of the time around 3 or 4 years ago when wolves were in the prem, won their first 2 or 3 games, with Albion starting poorly, they briefly went top, we were bottom, and Karl's brainier Brother, 'stupid Sid', was shouting over here that he was p****** himself loffin', and many other dingles were arrogantly mouthing off too-

what then happened was their bubble burst, they dropped like a stone, we began picking up points and climbing the table, the dings shuffled away in a sulky strop, and Sid posted later in the season that he was fed-up, and throwing his season ticket away......LOL!!

Believe me, they've always had a 'mob' mentality, and if things DO take a turn for the worse, they'll be tearing down the molineux offices, and running Morgan/Moxey out of town-

no one knows what's around the corner, or what twists and turns may be in front of us......

DroitwichBaggie71

I'll make my judgement on Irvine once I see the first eleven play once Poco, Lescott, Varela, Samaras, Gamboa, Blanco, Ideye, Wisdom, Davidson, Gardner and Baird have had time to get to know each others wave length to think we are going to click straight away is obscene, anyone that knows anything about football should expect us to struggle to begin with, we are after all on the same points as Man Utd should Van Gaal be shown the door to, I don't think so. I'm not saying I'm happy with how we have started because I'm not but I'm realistic and know it will take time because I don't think anyone could get that amount of new players clicking from the start no matter how good they are. It is vitally important that we all get behind the team and try to stay grounded because if we all start getting on individuals backs nothing good will come out of it.

CantelloRocket 78

DB71,

we've now assembled a 25-man squad, and several of those players facing Swansea yesterday may not be first choice selections over the rest of this season, but are needed now-

I've said before that success is like a combination lock, with the various factors needing to 'click' into place, and as you say, with half a dozen new signing not even figuring yet, how can we judge the finished article?

The two key things are confidence and stability, and panic doesn't usually help - I'm sure certain changes are needed, but a knee-jerk reaction every 5 minutes could makes things worse, it needs calm heads and well-timed judgement as we move forward.

DroitwichBaggie71

I agree we have to get behind them, having support lifts people it breeds confidence and that will at the end of the season put points on the table, it's so easy to criticise people when things are not going to plan but it seems much harder for some people to reassure them also. I will probably be slated for getting behind a misfiring side but this isn't the first time Albion has struggled and it won't be the last but at the end of the day I love my team through good times and bad that's why I'm proud to be an Albion fan.

baggiz681

D71

Yes we do have to get behind the team, but its very difficult when your 1-0 down before you have taken your seat and then watching 90 minutes of dross.

DroitwichBaggie71

I remember playing Man Utd not so long back and we was 3-0 down after 30mins the result ended 5-5 we got behind the team and roared them on right till the end and got our just rewards that's just one example..... Chin up it will get better.... I hope ;-)

Hi im jake (new on here )

Does anyone agree with me that

2 dean kyley should be keeper coach only

3 chris brunt should be swown the door along with olsen and dingle downing

4 let alan irvine manage the team affairs on his own and see what happens. He,s supposed to be an excellent coach so let him loose

Jpe59

Yes, Brunt needs to go tomorrow, championship level at best, KD needs to go, DK needs to go, they were responsible for the demise of the team last season and so far it appears nothing has changed.

We need to ditch this head coach business, it does not work, and we need a strong manager, with vast experience of this league, who has a game plan.

Can I back up Kev's request.

If you want to post about the Wolves then do it on our site. The only ones over here are the idiots and the likes of Stoke, Lincs, Orlando and Seattle Wolf's who are mature enough not to worry about it.

By posting wind ups all over the Wolves site you are encouraging Wolves fans to come over here that wouldn't bother otherwise. Eldervo, Jackettinho and the little twerp will still post on here because they're obsessed with us but it's easier to ignore them if they're isolated.

Baggies can then decide whether to reply to those three or ignore them.

you got more chance of jack agreeing to that as you have of 1eye scoring against Everton .

Kiv. What an erudite post. However I don't think your plea will work unfortunately. You see all of us Wolfies, Dingles or whatever you like to call us are now convinced that Jack is in fact a closet Wolves fan. You also have to consider that in addition to Jack we also have McVitie the biscuit man and the Corporal disguised as a Captain. It is therefore, only to be expected that we send you their equivalent in the form of:- Y & H. Eldervo et al.

I don't make many comments here, however feel the need to say:

Can't remember any team either getting promoted or being relegated before Christmas.

Also in respect of AI - don't like his excuses, if we play badly then say so. Don't blame it on unfit players etc not interested in hearing that.

He is being quoted that he is happy with the squad and that the balance is right. So it's now down to him to prove just how good he is. Like many of you I didn't want him but we are stuck with him for the time being.

He needs to know his best team and stick to it unless injuries and suspensions prevail.

Squad rotation doesn't work for teams built on our budget.

If you look at the results so far, we would have expected a victory against Sunderland and defeats at both Swansea and Southampton. We have to be realistic. If we can survive in this league and have a decent cup run ( or even win a cup) win against our local rivals, whoever they may be then that is as good as it gets.

Today's football is all about money, the rich get richer and the gap gets bigger each season that passes.

So unless we get a benefactor survival will always be difficult. Just think back to pre Megson. I for one NEVER thought Albion would be in the Premiership!

Let's try and enjoy it if we can!!

AndyH

Evening,

yesterday was disappointing to say the least....a mix of poor play - mishaps - a team gelling against a settled side and poor decision making....in short AI is right we started badly, aided by a slip, but then never got going. Trying to watch on the internet was hopeless and, even though the the radio commentary was pretty good I only watched the highlights so commenting on the whole performance would be difficult......

I know we've got players coming back from injury....signed 11 players so far with 24 hours or so left....so it'll take time to get everyone up to speed and doing what AI wants...but yesterday as me a little concerned to say the least. It seemed to me that we got going when Sess and Jimmy came on....so after the break they maybe need to start....and maybe in place of Dozza and Brunt. I like Brunt but he's playing at the moment with no confidence ( imo) and he missed a chunk of pre-season....he's off the pace a bit so maybe he needs to play a couple of reserve games to get going....

Dozza , again in my view, can be great on his day but even though he always gives 100%....I think I'd have him on the bench because if Jimmy's fit he starts...if Sess is fit he starts....Dozza is good but they are just a little better.....

hopefully after the break everyone will be up to speed and we can see some progress....and some more bodies to choose from.

regards

AndyH

Too right the season is a marathon not a sprint.

International break now after that you will surely surely see a great change in this squad.

This is my last post for 4 weeks as i am off to the land down under .... still higher than Dingle town I might add.

My message is to Alan Irvine. "Cometh the Hour, Cometh the MAN"

You were not my choice, you were not the choice of the majority, but you have been backed with double figure new signing who just have to better than last seasons dross. So ditch KD and DK from your distraction and live or die by YOUR decisions. Make it count. Now is the time. Best of luck.

THEGREENMAN

This thread started with a comment on Irvine's ability to coach our club. No problem with that, but the next 21 posts were all to do with our lonely troll, 4 of which were his inane comments (which nobody relied to), but the next 24 were posts from Baggie fans to each other, but ALL were about the same troll. I bet that really made him krej himself off for a few seconds, all that attention, getting Baggie fans talking about him, just as I am now. Up until 8.07 pm there were 74 posts and only 24 were to do with the thread. The balance of the posts were :- 17-- FROM THE TROLL

5 --AIMED AT /FROM JACK

28 --TO DO WITH /REPLIES TO THE TROLL

It seems a sad thing to do on a Sunday night to count posts, but it might highlight the problem we cause ourselves by reading his drivel/ replying to it and also creating our own forum about him. He obviously thinks he is a star, but he is just deluded.

People I've already been accused of ''TELLING'' people if / when they can post, which is totally untrue but I would suggest that the total starvation of this person might be the only way of ridding ourselves of the problem.

It's guna get worse before it get better, I know weem back too the same old crap but we're now startin' too get propa Dingles on here talkin' sense about the Wasp, which may not mek any difference but it shows there a shift in change, the last time it happened was with Latka ( Latvia Wolf} and he ain't bin heard from since.

Then we have the Colour Sargent from the other camp tekin his boots off and deciding too join us ( Trbhoo I mean that with LOL),

so small steps mate, small steps.

So please dow post with a heavy heart mate look at the positive, we'll get there in the end and if we dow they wow be able too blame us, TRANQUILO!!!

I could reply to this post but I read Max's below first and realise that I would be doing exactly what you're accusing me of doing and nearly provoked me into doing again.

So I'm going to do the grown up thing and say nothing. My posts in future will be about football, music and the meaning of life but I won't be replying to the low IQ Wulfies although I maintain my right to speak to the grown ups like Seattle, Lincs, Orlando and Stoke and hope they all continue to post from time to time.

Kev the Rev in LA

Trbhoo

It was ony last week that Max stated quite emphatically that nobody could tell him who to post too, he not a part of any organization, he'll post too whom he wishes, or words too that affect.

Now in a perfect world that's great but we ay in one am we?

Fans can think and say what they like about me, but my quest is not over, as you can see from McVitiespace below, so I feel I'm due a few concessions in my replies especially as my much pleaded for goal is gaining momentum.

Anyway that explains why I'm replying too you.

In your post above your tone gives me the impression that I've upset you? well mar mate I apologise if you've taken anything that way cause nothing could be further from the truth, I'm over the moon that a much valued contributor has finally join in the quest.

As to your final comments above re- replies too grown up Dingles I totally agree as that all I ever wanted.

Well it come's to summat when the biggest proportion of posts on here are between grown men arguing about trolls like 3 year olds arguing over a toy.

I shall eneavour to get this site back to Football and the storm clouds that are getting ever bigger over the Hawthorns. As far as i am concerned currently we have three players we can trust at this level Foster , Mulumbu and Gardner , the rest of em have serious question marks hanging over them for various reasons ( Fitness , Form , Ability or Age ).

Do we have an Head Coach to handle these problems and the rigours of the Premier League ? for me the answer is a categoric NO . I firmly believe that no other Club in this league would have considered Irvine or Mel and i cannot believe that we have employed them.

I would be interested to hear other ALBION supporters thoughts if you can tear yourselves from the ' My garden shed is bigger than your garden shed rubbish.

No wonder Cyril Randle packed this site in . Cyril if you are reading this i will look out for ya at the Everton game , all the best .

The Real Bully Hoo.

Morning Max.

That's a massive exaggeration (if you don't mind me saying that.) You can't rule out Morrison, MaCauley or Lescott and others as can't be trusted at this level because they're coming back from injuries, injuries happen in football.

You are obviously judging Gamboa, Pocognoli, Ideye etc because they're new to the EPL. By the same standard you would have ruled that Diego Costa or Oscar at Chelsea or any other foreign player can't be trusted or Olsson, Mulumbu or Odemwingie when they joined us.

Players have injuries, players lose form, players get older but none of these things rules them out, they just happen. I don't know who you rule out on the ability criteria. You don't know the manager can't sort this out you think he might not be able to, big difference but you're not willing to give him a chance.

Good to be arguing about football again mate and my shed might not be bigger than yours but it is a metal one so there!!!! Nah nah na nah nah!!!!!!

Max Wall Heath Baggie

Morning Mate ,

God bless ya for replying about FOOTBALL even if yow doh agree , Quelle Surprise LOL .

I did try to qualify my comments regarding the Squad with Fitness, Form , Ability and Age . The example's you used , Morrison : out of form for a fair stretch now , Lescott : will he ever be fit , Macauley : Not in the first flush of youth .

With due respect mate , Diego Costa cost a small fortune , his goals won Athletico Madrid La LIga last season and he is a Spanish International , for me there is not much of a gamble there.

Irvine is 56 , failed miserably at Preston and Wednesday and was an academy coach at Everton before coming here , does not fill me with confidence to be honest , I wonder if it is dawning on him the enormity of the job he has taken on.

Captain Mardon International

Your last paragraph is the simple message I've tried explain to many about him. There doesn't seem to be any charisma about him, no authority. It looks like he is standing in for our manager on a match day.

However I am prepared to wait for a couple of months and see what he can do with our new squad, just try and be confident mate.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Captain.

You could say the same about Roy Hodgson. In fact many did when he first took over with us.

Captain Mardon International

RE: BULLY

I knew Roy Hodgson would be able to change things around, he has a good background in coaching. What has Irvine achieved?

RobinBrittain

I have some sympathy with your views but how does any manager legislate for the performances of Dorrans and Brunt ?

Captain Mardon International

Morning Max, I agree on the 1st point about pointless arguing with the noisy neighbours down the road, and have been guilty of getting caught up in it, for me is unusual as I'm normally to busy to care. New line drawn from now, just concentrate on my team.

Yep Alan Irvine has a lot of work to do with our new squad. I am hoping he will drill his football philosophy in to them for us to start a fresh after the International break. Perhaps I've totally missed an interview with him or I'm just plain stupid, but I still don't know what he want's to bring to West Brom. We statistically have the right players for the job so there is NO excuse as far as I'm concerned. I'm not asking for European qualification but I am expecting a mid table finish, which isn't to much to ask for IMO.

Anyway up the baggies!

The Real Bully Hoo.

Ahoy Captain.

With respect AI could come up with all the fine words in the world about his footballing philosophy but it wouldn't mean anything would it? Not only that but he would get posts on here saying, 'we don't want to hear all that c**p.'

THEGREENMAN

Bully

My opinion, for what it's worth is that Alan Irvine's main problem is the same as Pepe Mel had ---- getting it across to the players. He has only now got his complete squad for the first time, and several of those aren't considered close enough to start games. It hasn't helped with the various ''levels of fitness'' he has encountered with the new players, and the existing injured players..I totally accept that for players who were out of contract, proper football related training might be difficult, but any sportsman worth his salt in that position, would surely be spending time and the considerable earnings they have made, on a fitness programme to enable them to be '' up to speed ''on stamina etc. Thank the lord for the 2 week break to be able to train hard and be ready for Everton.

THEGREENMAN

The Real Bully Hoo.

Morning TGM.

It's so liberating to be talking about football again and I have to admit that you and Kev were right about that but I can't tell him or I'll never hear the last of it.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Alex Ferguson would have struggled with the problems AI has had due to the amount of new arrivals combined with injuries to existing players.

The trouble is that because he was already under so much pressure from people not willing to give him a chance, the weight has increased because the same people for some reason always think we should walk over clubs like Swansea, Sunderland and Saints in the same way that Chelsea and Arsenal do.

He will now be expected to work a miracle because we have a two week break and come back to thump a settled Everton side that have lost no players and added a couple of more since finishing 5th last year.

Max Wall Heath Baggie

GREENMAN

Pepe Mel could not speak English so he was going to have one hell of a job communicating . Quite what Irvine's excuse is i do not know apart from not being qualified for the job that is .

Well surprise, surprise I see a little flaw in yowa post which while not wanting to be pedantic I feel I must comment.

It's alright commenting on the state of these boards when it gets too this mind blowingly tedious state and admittedly you have not been one of the major culprits in the demise but you have reacted in your own forthright manor when it's been suggested you would receive retribution for daring too reply to certain posters, saying nobody tell me who I can reply too.

There lye's the misconception, myself and others have never intended too tell fans who they can reply too, we just pleaded with them to think about what they are doing, cause speaking for myself I could see where it was heading, exactly the place it is now.

I'm not trying too start an argument I'm explaining why, speaking for myself, it's been so frustrating and I dow know, maybe that's why many of my posts, shall we say, are slightly abrasive.

Anyway your contribution to the cause is greatly appreciated, so much so there'll be a half waitin' for ya in The Vine when I eventually get there.

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE .

mcvitiespace

I see you answered me for once youngand hungry. You really are growing some balls. It was inane but nevertheless an answer.

I just want to correct you on a remark you made earlier when you referred to an Albion fan being an ex Villa fan. I think you will find it was Wolves fans who defected to Villa in the 1980s who came back when Wolves got promoted to the 2nd div. I think it was when molineux was getting 2 to 3 thousand for each home game. As i have said before i know half a dozen "lifelong supporters "of Wolves who did this but only one stuck with the Villa the others did come back to the fold so to speak.. Perhaps now you can see why it is difficult to accept with any conviction what any Wolves fan actually says, as you ask any of them and they all went to every match in the dark days of div 4 but obviously were not counted in. Just out of interest did you go to every game then or were you on a sabbatical. The excuse of not being born we know would not stop you also youngand hungry. As your many fanciful "i was there" claims have shown in the past. I also see you have now stopped arguing with people who have seen through your lies instead just coming back with some sunday dinner quote. Anyway HAPPY MONDAY youngand hungry whats for monday dinner?

CantelloRocket 78

McVit,

the prat keeps trying to 'taunt' me with some rubbish about once being a villa fan, but of course it's complete tripe, just like the rest of his verbal diarrhoea-

I was born in the shadow of the Hawthorns' floodlights, and always been 100 per cent blue 'n' white-

although if I had to choose who to watch from other local clubs, villa would probably be a better bet than wolves, because villa fans see the dingles as hillbillies from the Welsh Border hills.....LOL!!!

youngand hungry

so you had season ticket at boggies every season last 10 seasons then ?

youngand hungry

oh crumbs I always reply to you , its just that I can`t sit here day and night replying to all the post , I didn't start going until the late 80s but I do go home and away every game if I am not working .

THEGREENMAN

Max

Sorry to disappoint you as regards a reply. Mel failed to get through to the players, partly through his language problem, but also because of his coaches, who seemed IMO to be against him from the start, along with certain players who could/ would not adapt to his style of play.

Irvine is still getting used to being the head coach, and to a certain extent is having to rely on Downing for his input on the players he inherited, that's why Downing seems to be in his face throughout the games so far. I've never liked Downing to be honest and when we dispensed with the services of the unwanted players, he should have gone too IMHO.

I really think Irvine should be backed to improve our situation, but at the same time if we are still in this position by the end of November, his future must be looked at.

THEGREENMAN

Max Wall Heath Baggie

GREENMAN

Thanks for replying. Interesting comments about Downing and your not the first to say it . Could i respectfully ask why you do not like him , because he seems to be very popular with the Albion hierarchy ? .

THEGREENMAN

Max

He does seem very popular, both with the hierarchy and also with the players who were here last season, and I think it's his ''friendliness'' with players that I'm wary of.. As a coach I don't think you should be too pally with players, it can lead to awkward situations. When I managed a warehouse for 20 years I couldn't have any favourites for the same reason. I do worry that if Irvine doesn't get us going, the board will opt for Downing as a replacement because he ''is popular with the players''. Just as many ,many people took an instant dislike to Alan Irvine, I've got the same sort of feeling against Downing. Just my opinion.

THEGREENMAN

Good Evening

What I find more annoying than anything is the absolute drivel commenting on Alan Irvine's managerial credentials after such a ridiculously short time

I suppose it is easy when you have nothing better to do than pick flies all day every day but I genuinely think some of you need to get a life

There is so much wrong in this world at the moment yet we seem to get a great deal of sport (and I use the word loosley) from vilifying a man who is thought of very highly by his peers , by his players and by those in the know.

Still I suppose some saddos can only target people who can't defebd themselves

The Real Bully Hoo.

bcwillicliff.

I agree and it doesn't stop with the manager with these knee jerk know it alls.

Lescott we were all hailing a a great signing until he picks up an injury in a friendly and they're christening him sick note.

Ideye is being branded a failure after a couple of games after moving to a new country, playing with new team mates and not being fully fit yet.

When we named Gary Megson as manager I was extremely disappointed but it never crossed my mind to cancel my season ticket or demand he be sacked. Turned out quite well that one didn't it?

bcliffwilli

Wanted to finish a bit more positively but pressed the button by mistake

Firstly it should have said can't defend themselves

If Alan Irvine was allowed to speak on this forum I guess most whingers would run for the hills

So 3 games in two draws and one defeat to Swansea who are fast replacing Stoke as the side we couldn't beat in a month of sundays

11 players in - great news need to gel soonest and THEY WILL

But remeber speech is still free in this country - opinions are allowed for individuals comments whether invited or not can be posted on this forum and all is well with the world at least the blue and white end anyway

More important than anything else though forget the wolves doesn't anyone else think and hope the Villa come unstuck soon??

Over and out for now

The Real Bully Hoo.

Continued reply LOL.

We have bought well but a lot of other clubs have as well, I think Hull have spent 3 times as much as we have. I hope and think we'll do okay but we have to remember that we have no divine right. Hull have a chairman rich enough to bail them out if it goes wrong. If JP gets his sums wrong we could be on the verge of bankruptcy and hurtling through the leagues with no way back.

PS.

On the Villa. I still suspect that the club is a ticking time bomb. Everything will be okay as long as they're winning but...

Danish Baggie

I suggest we all forget NOT to response to or talk about you know who. Its just not gonna happen. Most have agreed NOT to do so, but still does. I cant belive it, how difficult is it ? Anyway, just enjoy the page as it is, or leave like Cyril. ( sad, miss your posts )

I'll do the latter, or should I say, Im already only on here half the time I used to be because its not fun anymore. I'll still have a look in, and maybe make the odd comment every now and then but this forum has been ruined.

Hope to see some of you when I come over next time.

On another note. About this talk about players ability to cut it in the P L, the quality of our signings etc. I know the Danish League is not compareble to the P L, but this season we have a new team in the Danish P L, called Hobro. A small town with 11.736 inhabitants. ( Thats right elleventhousandsevenhundredandthirtysix) They have obviosly never played this level before, but today they played there 6th game and won 3-1.

They have now got 4 winns a Draw and a loss and are sitting 2nd. They beat F C Copenhagen away and Brøndby home ( Daniel Aggers new Club )

And these players ALL have a full time job, and train after work.

I guess what I want to say is, that teamspirit , will, fight and pride can get you a long way. I wish we could se some of that for the rest of the season.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Danish.

It will be very sad to see yet another valued poster fall to the trolls, if that's what you decide to do. Your good sense and balanced posts will be missed. All the best mate.
