And his central defensive partner is hoping the game at the Liberty Stadium does not prove to be the defender's final appearance for the Baggies.

Dawson has been the subject of three failed bids from Premier League new-boys Burnley.

And, while the Clarets have not returned for several weeks, they have not ruled out a new offer before Monday's transfer deadline.

But Jonas Olsson, who has partnered Dawson in the season's opening two league games of the season, is keen for the former England Under-21s man to stay.

He said: "We all know Craig, he's very professional and he just gets on with things and he's done really well in these two games and I'm not surprised.

"I played with him in the squad for quite some time and he's a good defender.

"He showed that at Southampton and against Sunderland.

"It (transfer speculation) is not something you focus on. You just get on with things and that's part of the game in 'silly season'.

"You have players coming and going and I just try to get on with things.

"People can see that 'Daws' hasn't been affected by it because he's done really well and hopefully he has a bright future here because I would like to have good players in the team and he's definitely a good player."

The Baggies recorded their first clean sheet of the season at Southampton in last weekend's goalless draw with Olsson and Dawson impressing at the heart of defence.

Summer signing Jason Davidson also played his part as a second-half substitute at St Mary's and Olsson was encouraged by the display.

He said: "In the end we could have ended up getting all three points but over the whole game it was a fair result.

"It's a tough place to go and a tough team to play against," Olsson added.

"But I think our performances against Sunderland and Southampton showed we're really on the right track.

"Jason is quite experienced for someone of his age and I thought he did really well at Southampton.

"I thought he did really well on his debut and I like playing alongside him."
