West Brom will net around £600,000 if Shane Long completes his surprise £12million switch from Hull City to Southampton.

The Baggies will land an extra payment from the Tigers after including a sell-on clause in the £6m transfer that took Long to the KC Stadium in January.

That fee could have risen to more than £7m based on appearances and goals but those bonuses will not now materialise with Long moving again so quickly.

But it is believed the Baggies will receive 10 per cent of the £6m profit the Tigers are set to generate if the Ireland international completes his move to St Mary's.

The move will also mean another reunion for Long with the Baggies, who head for Southampton on August 23 for their second game of the season.

His last meeting with his former club came in March, when he created controversy by appearing to dive for a penalty as Hull beat Pepe Mel's side 2-0, with Long scoring the second goal.

He was later involved in an angry exchange with travelling Albion fans outside the stadium.

The Saints game is one of a trio of opening fixtures which the Baggies will target for points as they look to avoid a repeat of last season's brush with relegation.
