Record West Bromwich Albion signing Brown Ideye today declared he is ready for work after finally linking up with the Baggies.

The £10m striker took part in his first training session yesterday after securing the work permit which delayed his arrival.

Ideye signed from Dynamo Kiev three weeks ago, but had a frustrating wait for all the relevant paperwork to be completed.

And the 25-year-old Nigeria international is eager to start after his unexpected hold-up.

"I've already put what has happened behind me," he said.

"Right now I'm here and it's all about working, working, working.

"I've met the manager and met my new team-mates.

"The rest of yesterday was all about recovery– some swimming and some running on the treadmill."

Ideye will not be involved in today's final pre-season friendly against FC Porto.

But he could be in contention for the Premier League opener at home to Sunderland next Saturday.

And the forward will be in the stands to watch the Baggies go up against the 2004 Champions League winners tomorrow.

"For me, I would say the game will come too soon because I've only just arrived now. I will have to start gradually," he said.

"But, for sure, I will be there as it's my team. I will go to support even though I'm not playing."

Meanwhile, Jason Davidson has drawn the battle lines as he gears up for his left-back challenge with Sébastien Pocognoli.

The defender will compete with fellow new-boy Pocognoli, who joined from Hannover 96 this summer for a spot under Alan Irvine.

Davidson signed from Heracles Almelo this week and is relishing the competition with his new Belgian team-mate.

"That's football. At any decent club you go to, there is always going to be competition," said the Australia international.

"For me that's a sign that it's a club that's pushing forwards and has ambition, because they've got two internationals at left-back.

"All I can do is work hard, concentrate on myself and do my business and the gaffer will decide who plays.

"You are only as good as your last game – so you just have to make sure you don't give anyone else an opportunity.

"I was given two weeks off after the World Cup and now I've had another 10 days, so I am 10 days behind.

"I am just working hard now to catch up and next week is the start.

"If the gaffer decides I'm ready then I'm ready, but if not I understand because I have missed a lot of pre-season.

"And I have to get to know my team-mates as well."
