West Brom in no rush to sell Claudio Yacob

West Brom boss Alan Irvine today insisted he is in no rush to sell midfielder Claudio Yacob despite growing interest from a host of European clubs.

Here's what Albion fans will be missing if he goes...remember the reaction when Claudio Yacob scored at Arsenal?

The Baggies are willing to listen to offers for the Argentina international midfielder and have received one firm bid from an unnamed continental side.

But after being frustrated in his bid to sign wingers and strikers to boost his squad, Irvine is not keen to let any current players leave – including Yacob.

“We’re not looking to sell,” said Irvine. “We’re trying to build the squad at this moment.

“But if someone comes in and makes an offer at a certain level, the club will decide whether to do business or not.

“We’re not actively looking to sell Claudio, definitely not. But could it happen? Could someone come in for him? Possibly.

“We’re not close to bringing anyone in and, likewise, I don’t believe we are close to sending anyone out.”

Irvine finally completed the signings of full-backs Cristian Gamboa and Jason Davidson this week to complete his defensive rebuilding.

Davidson has trained with his new team-mates while Gamboa is waiting for his work permit to be processed before joining the squad.

Record £10m signing Brown Ideye is finally on his way to England after collecting his visa in Lagos yesterday.

But Irvine is still frustrated by knock-backs in his bid to recruit more widemen and an extra forward.

“We need another option up front so those are areas we are looking to strengthen,” he said.

“We’re enquiring and looking at an unbelievable number of players. It’s just proving very difficult.”

Gareth McAuley (calf), Joleon Lescott and James Morrison (both knee) will miss tomorrow’s Hawthorns friendly against Porto (4pm) through injury while Davidson is short of match fitness so will miss out.

SurreyBaggie

I don't really have much to say on this, except for wondering whether I'm missing something? "Frustrated in bids to sign wingers and strikers?" "Frustrated by knock-backs?" Have we failed in our attempts to sign players? Have we been aware of any concrete attempts to sign players in those positions?

No, didn't think so.

Adam H

Maybe not but a lot happens behind the scenes regarding checking players availability.

youngand hungry

yes knock backs ! remember Brown 1eye was 3rd choice striker .

Captain Mardon International

Best of luck in the Division 2 opener tomorrow. Big big team for you. Hope you can cope in the dizzy heights of Division 2.

Capn, WBA and colin. You know what bugs me most about seeing this idiot's posts ?

I end up wanting Wolves to lose, be hammered even, just to shut the silly sod up !

Yet deep down, they belong in the top flight with us and Aston Villa, derbies, FRIENDLY rivalry, old-fashioned banter and very, very old, good clubs. The salt of the Earth in fact.

I apologise in advance to normal Wulfies.

Gawd 'elp yer 'avin' this tw** pleading your case !

Cyril

Baggies ! I have just had a brainstorm idea.

Why don't we all POST ON THE WULFIE site and leave this site to the bottle-fed baby and DieselMan ? COMMENTS PLEASE !!!!!!!!

The i and the o buttons are next to each other, probably the same reason you wrote nonw at the bottom of this thread.

Not sure we can apply such mitigating circumstances to your inability to differentiate between 'where' and were' though.........

Thanks for the support Kev. I have made a comment to Greenman at the botoom of the page. This site has ceased to be of interest to me with a screaming, noisy brat yapping away non-stop. It will be time to go.

Well I'd agree with your point if we were actually trying to sign the names that ill-researched reports were claiming. But we weren't, so I won't.

youngand hungry

I see the fans of this elite prem club that you follow arnt buying tickets for Swansea game , so Swans knocking £10 of ticket price , I do hope it helps .

Max Wall Heath Baggie

Its proving very difficult cos we want to keep doing it on the cheap .

Brown Ideye = 10 mil

Cristian Gamboa = 2 mil

Sebastian Poconoli = 1.5 mil

I also was unaware that the players that had no. "Transfer" fees played for free.....

Long window to go yet. Some players become more "available " the closer to deadline day we get.

Ages yet, AI ain't daft, he isn't going to yell everyone who we are after. Boing boing

Warren

To be fair Max, only 4 teams outside the top 6 have out-spent us this summer and three of them - Southampton, Newcastle and West Ham - have either got a lot of money from selling players in the last 6 months or rich and generous owners.

Max Wall Heath Baggie

When did fairness come into it ??? . Hope to see ya soon mate .

youngand hungry

selling players that where actually worth something .

colindbaggie

As opposed to not being able to give them away boom boom bomb squad.

Max

Cor all be like yo, wastin' money on train fares!.

Adeu

Adam H

Personally I think he should go for the right price , great first season, never been the same since injury, seemed off the pace completely.

Out - Dawson and Yacob

In - Nathan Redmond, Jack Cork, and either Danny Ings, Jon Walters, or Jordan Ayew.

Just my opinion and I'm more than likely wide of the mark lol

Max Wall Heath Baggie

I thought Ayew moved this summer or was that his brother ? . Redmond , Cork and Ings are good shouts but not realistic with the fee's that will be wanted for Redmond and Ings , we should have got Redmond last year when he was 2 million , instead have shelling out for Sinclair's ridiculous wages .

Take your point above regarding fee's but you need to pay good money for forwards and having paid 10 million for Ideye , i cannot see JP paying big again, hope to be wrong however .

The Real Bully Hoo.

Max

If we'd gone for Redmond instead of Sinclair there would have bound to have been somebody saying, 'We're doing it on the cheap.'

Warren

Would sort of agree on Redmond, I get the impression they didn't pursue him because there were doubts over his ability to help his full-back out. He can beat a man though, which is priceless at this level.

Max Wall Heath Baggie

Sarky !!!!.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Max.

I was just going to ask you if Ayew's brother is called Ume.

bob.williamsfindlay

Redmond is still a Blue Nose fan, so turned down chance to join Albion.

We do need a winger and a striker still.

Back to Redmond, let's hope on Sunday he shows us what he can do against poor a defence.

Ayew has gone to French club lorient

SurreyBaggie

There are some fine qualities to Redmond, but at Norwich he seemed a bit hit and miss with how much he could affect a game. That said, he was very impressive with Brum, and I'd certainly like to see him at the Hawthorns.

SurreyBaggie

For the right price, that is.

youngand hungry

`If a club comes in and makes an offer ` so you are willing to sell ? seems like an advert putting him in the shop window to me .

WBA

Your lot cant even buy or even sell players.

So why comment really??

Your going into the pop and crisp league

With a striker who could not score before you got relegated also cross eyed clarke

Boing Boing.

CantelloRocket 78

I'd imagine by this point in time most players and their agents are holding on for the best deal - it's a bit like eBay, where most activity hots up in the final minutes of a sale, and increased competition pushes up the price as it nears the deadline.

Basically, we released the squad players we didn't want or need at the end of last season, plus careful dealing means we're a club that still has strong financial foundations, so I doubt if we need to sell anyone if we don't want to - but then again, we could possibly sacrifice a squad player if we feel we need an extra injection of financial clout to bring in a useful addition elsewhere, it's all just part of normal trading.

Max Wall Heath Baggie

i see you have turned your attention to Cricket on the other thread ( Dickie Bird ) , yow know nuthin about Footie let alone Cricket . Stick to fishing and Dingle hunting .

Jack the Hat

Albion out of decency will inform any player of an interested club and all players realize there is a price our club will accept, with their blessing, end of. Saying Albion bought a better player than Yacob he would be sold and he appreciates this as do all players.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

DroitwichBaggie71

Yacob is one of our top players we must keep hold of him SIMPLES, he has looked dogged for sure since his injury last season but fitness can be worked on finding a player of his class is much harder.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Hi Droitwich.

It's Catch 22 isn't it. If it's the Yacob we had before the injuries then keep him at all costs, if it's the one after then I think he'll struggle for a game. We won't know til we see him play though will we?

youngand hungry

Gorra loff at the transfer rumours , Stoke trying to off load Walters to the boggies and replace him with , wait for it , nonw other than Jonathan Biabiany , you couldn`t make it up could you ,

colindbaggie

Hi 'nonw' is that dinglish again.

Please explain.

Boing Boing.

WBA

Express and star are forever getting the transfer rumours bang on!!

Must say

Baggiedaddy

I like Yacob and it will be sad to see him go, just as with any quality player, but the truth is we as a club are moving on.

West Brom are totally unrecognisable from the outfit we were some 10 years ago and it says everything about how far we've come and where we're heading that we are prepared to sell players of that ability.

We have just endured a season of problems that we could well have done without but we're still here sitting on the same points total as every other Premier League Team

Baggiedaddy

I pressed the submit button to soon.

Yes we have everything to look forward to, we might have hung on by our fingernails but hung on we did, unlike some other teams who didn't have the strength, commitment, or talent to do so, we are here again and looking good.

Come on you Baggies!

The Real Bully Hoo.

Welcome back BD. Great enthusiastic post.

I've heard green eyed interlopers say that we stayed up because there were three other poor teams below us. Like you say, we've stayed up because we were good enough to, despite a number of setbacks outside our control.

Football is cut and dried, you get enough points you stay up. Even when it's by the skin of your teeth on goal difference and it's nobody else's fault if you aren't good enough to take advantage of that the season after, or even the season after that.

Max Wall Heath Baggie

We did stop up cos there was three worse and my word they must have been bad . Doh worry about interlopers cos i can feel the Max/ Bully Civil Wars starting again , now where did i leave my chainsaw !!!!!!.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Hi Max.

Good to see you're in such high spirits this early in the season. You could also say that we only failed to win the PL because there were 16 teams better than us. It's a very subjective argument..

SurreyBaggie

I would have to disagree there, even as a supporter. There will always be ifs and buts but I do feel we got lucky last time around. As with every team, there will be some influencing factors out of our control, but most of that was a mess of our own creation, which I was happy to see acknowledged by JP & co. Other teams had their share of off-field problems too, and I can't help but feel that if Fulham and Cardiff hadn't have self-destructed so spectacularly, then things could have well been different. The perception of whether we stay up on our own merits or on that of others will always be a contested subject - however I do feel we will not be having to be debate it at the end of this season.

youngand hungry

soon to be the abuse button .

colindbaggie

Why you gonna use the abuse button?, are you being picked on

youngand hungry

you know I don't like being picked on , I can`t take any more .

colindbaggie

Well go away and take your medication then.

Boing Boing.

youngand hungry

THEGREENMAN

If it should happen that Yacob and Dawson are allowed to leave, it should be done towards the end of the transfer window or when we have signed better replacements. With the current injuries we have both players could have a vital role to play at the start of the season.

THEGREENMAN

Baggiedaddy

Greenman

You're right, but rest assured nothing will happen unless it's right for the club.

RobinBrittain

If there are a host of European clubs interested the lad must have something to attract them.

If only we could get him back to his pre injury form there should be no question of selling him.

It's Alan Irvine's job to get Yacob back to his best form.

glassboy baggy

I think we should leave all the wheeling and dealing to the men in the know . We are steady in the premiership, in the black( or we were till the transfer window opened )and with the new signings and more to come we should be comfortable for this season . Look at the likes of Leeds .Bolton .Portsmouth etc the financial predicament they are in and our near neighbours to some extent .Keep it the way we are !. Anyway good luck to all our neighbours this season, I would like to see us all in the premiership some day .Boing Boing.

Johneboywolves

Interesting observations and assessment from 1 of the daily broadsheets:

'The appointment of Alan Irvine – perhaps the Premier League’s most underwhelming managerial appointment since Brian Laws – has generated a tranche of doom-laden predictions for West Brom this season. That aside, though, there has been real and tangible improvement. Joleon Lescott was England’s first-choice defender just a couple of years ago, and Brown Ideye looks a handy addition up front, even if Irvine admitted he he’d never actually seen him play before signing him. The overall impression is of a club pretty much making it up as they go along, as evidenced by their new, sacrilegious, stripe-less kit. What on earth is going on here, West Brom? Go and sit in the Championship for a season and have a long, hard think about what you’ve done.'

Food for thought.

Your post at 2.10pm. ''Why don't we all post on the Wulfie site ''

Are you serious.????? We may as well not post at all on any site, because that would mean we have given up our rights to an opinion on our own site.!! The only way is to totally ignore the ridiculous, childish comments we are getting. Just resist the temptation to answer all the jibes and childlike rubbish that comes to our site. Leave the morons to eventually just talk to themselves. There is no reason for us to stop posting to each other, after all it is our site. If you see a troll name just ignore it and look for our own posts. Don't even read them. If people are happy to encourage troll activity by replying to it, they haven't much respect for their own site have they. ?? I know I'm fighting a losing battle, because ASKING people to support something that is for their own good, is taken as TELLING them what to do. Yes it's a free forum, but it is becoming a non-forum now because of the current situation. At the end of the day you will all please yourselves anyway.!!

THEGREENMAN

Cyril

Greenman. If you read one of my posts earlier, I have written to the Editor, (not even the courtesy of a reply), used the 'abuse' button which got rid of 'eurobound', tried just about anything and everything. NOTHING has worked, probably because the Mods are having a good laugh too at the chaos this TW** is causing. Then it occurred to me that if we ALL go on the Wolves site and leave this one empty, then said maniac will either talk to himself or go over there too. I can't believe the Mods will then do nothing.

My alternative is for me only and that is say goodbye to you all.

Frankly, it has ceased to be an adult function with a screaming, nasty little child always making inane comments. My week of waiting to see will be up and I shall just go quietly. Making a noise has achieved nothing.

THEGREENMAN

Posting on the Wulfie site won't stop the moron from replying, unless he is afraid of his own Wulfie normal posters. I think it will encourage more of the moron's mates to come out with their share of rubbish. Look this is only my opinion, you could be right. I posted earlier that I won't be posting again, and I've since replied to you and to Kev, on this thread. I will sleep on it over the rest of the weekend, I will be away all of tomorrow so will miss all the ''fun'' until Monday. I will have a look then what has been happening.

This is the second attempt too reply, not a clue where the fust un went.

Just so I don't put me foot in it, was your reference to Morons talking about Dingles who post over hear or those who constantly reply too em? ony some might be of the opinion the description could apply too both.

With respect to your call to completely ignore DIngles, the campaign has been running for quite a few seasons now as many are sick too death of the same tit for tat benign comments from both sides and as everyone knows the participants from the WBA side refuse too try the last resorts,

So dismiss Cyril's suggestion out of hand as you have done is IMO a little hasty, I thought the idea has merits ,so muchso I've already gid it a goo on The 3 injured players thread and I'm happy too report I ay had one negative comment yet, too be fair if o'do it wow botha me cause it's ony to be expected, I think yo should also try it cause nothing else works, well nothing that they are willing too try that is.

The reference to morons was to the idiots from the dark side. I would never consider our true fans to be anything like them, but it totally sessip me off to keep reading all the replies that some seem to relish posting back to them. As regards Cyril's suggestion just to post on the Wulfie site, if that means just to post to each other on their site, it won't make the slightest bit of difference, the troll will just reply on there as well IMO. The mods may well be laughing at the chaos but...if we leave then so will the advertisers....less cash......less jobs....less people on the site.....less people employed by the paper.....

I'm beginning to think that some of the "trolls" are actually the mods.....otherwise why let this parc through??

Hi Cyril. It's only recently that after a long absence I started writing on here again. But, the plug is being pulled once more. It isn't just the banal, odious drivel that certain nondescript idiots from up the road that have helped my decision. Some of our own supporters have made my mind up also. I always enjoyed your reminiscences about the "Good old days" and the comments of Rocket and TRBH. I got stick from our literary genius morons for actually being a published poet. That just about sums up their grasp of anything meaningful. But, I've done my bit to help promote our team and even supporters abroad. I cannot be asked to read E&S reports again. Too much tripe involved. I actually sent all the comments one day on my Google blog feed..... Thousands of Americans commented on it. "Trailer trash" and "Hicksville" were aimed at our neighbours pathetic attempts at wit. Anyway, my poems "The King and the little red shop", "No footprint in the snow" and "This isn't cricket" all won sporting category awards in the US. Netted over $1500. They're about Jeff Astle, Laurie Cunningham and the Ramires dive respectively. You can find them on Google ( with a bit of searching) best of luck Cyril. A pleasure reading your posts. Maybe one day we'll enjoy a Bathams together. All the best.

Can I echo what Andy has just said and appeal to you to think again.

If your mind is made up I understand that and respect your decision though.

Despite the many excellent posters that have fallen by the wayside, there are still a lot of good ones left but you are unique on here because of the respect your fair minded posts have earned.

I will miss your reminiscences of a bygone age as both a football supporter and a man, again something that is irreplaceable on here. We've had our differences that have led to spats but have never fallen out. I'll miss your sense of humour that is never spiteful (unlike mine) I'll miss your level headed common sense, often a precious commodity on here. Most of all I'll miss having a proper old fashioned gentleman to speak to, there aren't too many left.

If I've embarrassed you I don't care and I still hope you have a re-think. All the best mate.

Cyril

Bully, Happy, Kev, AndyH. Thanks again for your kind words. It's only fair to say I haven't been myself of late and the fight has gone. I tried every conceivable approach to the E&S, none worked, so I gave in and now blame them totally. Cheers to you all and the best of luck. I'm itching for next Saturday. You could of course desert the site for ONE WEEK to see what happens ????

Or is that subterfuge ? Tarra a bit an' thank yer fer 'avin' we.

I think I was one of the first regular posters on here some 6-7 years ago and used to really enjoy the site. Even the visiting dings had some sense of humour and it made for a lively site - some threads would get over 200 posts ...... And then the trolls arrived and posters who were regular contributors just left.

Many will say I have let the trolls win but I still read the news threads even if I don't bother with the posts.

From getting over 200 posts on a thread to 200 posts from some idiot troll - well done mods.

Before I go I've got too say this and please forgive me for repeating myself.

The wasp is one of many but there are many, many more of you that bore many, many, many more WBA fans with your benign attempts at humour with your constant replies, yes there are some good ones but they are far outweighed by pure boring drivel.

There are some who's life would end without this activity and they selfishly refuse to stop, even after many many pleas.

IMHO as much as the Wasp and the E+S are too blame for Cyril's impending departure so are the pathetic comedians who selfish give Dingles their daily pleasure at having WBA fans dangling on a string.

Don't give them the satisfaction Cyril.
