The versatile Liverpool defender, signed at the beginning of last week, played the full game in Saturday morning's 3-1 win over Sacramento Republic.

And as the Baggies ended their tour on a high thanks to goals from Saido Berahino, Youssouf Mulumbu and Victor Anichebe, Wisdom is looking to make a big impact in the Premier League.

He said: "I'm happy to have signed coming from Liverpool, this is a great club, and I'm just happy with the move.

"I was on loan last season at Derby and that was a really good loan, so I'm hoping I can do the same this season.

"Brendan Rodgers is a great manager, as you can see with the season they had last year, and he said I need to keep improving and try to keep playing at a consistent level.

"West Brom can grant me more of an opportunity to do so, and touching base with the gaffer here, Alan, he virtually said the same thing. He's a great coach with young players, and I just need to keep improving and learning."

The defender, who can play at centre-back or right-back, said there was an opportunity for him to stay at Liverpool, but he opted for a move to make sure he had more of a chance of first team football.

"There was an option definitely," he said, "but with the amount of games that Liverpool have this season and the position I'm in, I just wanted to keep progressing and try to play on a more consistent basis, so I thought West Brom was the ideal option.

"It's Premier League and it's a good club to come and learn, there are other young players here doing well such as Saido Berahino – last season he had a great campaign – and other players are coming on and doing well so I thought it would be a great club to come to.

"I played against West Brom and I've also watched them play every week because I'm a football fan, so I know we've got some great players in the side and a good squad.

"So I'm aware of what everyone can do and I'm aware of what I can do, and it's finding the combination of yourself and the team and mixing it.

"The lads have welcomed me with open arms and I've tried to introduce my style of play to them."

But the 21-year-old, who has been handed the No.2 shirt, faces a tough challenge if he is to get into the side with the likes of Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley having been joined by England defender Joleon Lescott and World Cup star Cristian Gamboa.

He added: "There's players here that I can learn off, the likes of Lescott who's just signed, Olsson is a great professional and a good senior player, McAuley, and there is young lads also.

"But I'm just happy to be in the side, to try to keep improving and learning off other people."
