Albion reject second Derby bid for George Thorne

Albion today rejected a second bid from Derby for midfielder George Thorne.

West Brom want to keep a hold of George Thorne, left.
West Brom want to keep a hold of George Thorne, left.

The Baggies have turned down another offer from the Rams for the 21-year-old, this time believed to be just over £1m.

This comes after the Championship play-off finalists saw an initial offer of £950,000 fail to tempt Albion.

Thorne saw a formal transfer requested rejected by the club on June 13 and it remains to be seen if they will return to the negotiating table for a third time.

The youngster played 12 games on loan for Derby last season, scoring twice, including the play-off final which they lost 1-0 to QPR.

It would cost Derby 5 million to bring an untried foreigner in and he would probably be past his sell by date anyway so tell Derby to start the bidding from there or they can go forth and multiply .. Boing Boing.

can any body see this post????

I did see it, but didn't read it... lol

What can you get for £1million these days in football ? Not a potential Prem player. We need more players IN and for now, none going out unless it suits us.

Derby were allowed to borrow one of our better young players. Now they are unsettling him. I'd think twice before lending them any more.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Cyril.

That was my very thought. We said the other day that it's about time that we stopped being Mr Nice Guy. How about a complaint to the FA about Derby' methods to make it very public to other clubs that might consider loaning them players what a sly underhand club they are.

I find this whole affair disgusting.

do lallytap

Or it might be that the loan deal included an option to buy when the loan deal ends ?

The Real Bully Hoo.

Dolally.

Surely if that was the case Derby would have mentioned it and the deal would have been done by now.

Unless you know more in which case please share it.

TRBH, I don't know, just saying ?

I do agree with you about the way Derby are acting, it undermines the player and the baggies and it's stirring it all up

Cyril

The Wally with the Brolly isn't quite as nice as the smile

suggests. They sure know what they're up to and they've convinced Thorne too. Time to get tough.

Regarding Derby wanting George Thorne.

After turning down a £1m insult to the player Derby want, they have returned with another £1.5m insult, if they return again a law should come in and the penalty should be a fine of what the coveting club offered for the player if they are rejected a third time. Well done Albion for standing your ground.

Get moving F.A.

Dear Derby,

now you're getting a) annoying and b) insulting....

just over a million....for and English midfield player....at a prem side who may have a great shout at pushing himself into the first team 11 / squad depending on formation played / what the coach wants etc....

it's cheeky i'll grant you....but his request has been turned down so I think , at the moment, you're wasting your and ours time.

A million......an insult at best!!! being as it's the silly season and all.....start at £6m and go from there

regards

AndyH

p.s....I'd rather we keep him.....the lads got real potential (but we all know that)

flintoff

Mr Handy I can`t really comment on Mr Thorne as I do not know to much about him, and I suspect with him being out on loan that not many WBA fans do either, but I do think your pushing it a bit asking 6 mil for an unproven player, not many British players are fetching that these days, lots of cheaper options abroad.

AndyH

Hi Flinty,

I'm probably over stating the price yes but my point is simple...I watched part of the playoff final and he was class....he was beginning to show that class when he got injured....so I think we should do our best to dissuade him from leaving as he could bring a lot to our side. All players are unproven until they...well prove themselves and with a new regime in charge he has that chance....I think he should look at the situation, take a deep breath and dislodge Jacob from the side as, on last seasons form, he could well do that.

AndyH

flintoff

Now I take your point, thank you Handy for having the decency to send a decent reply, a few on here should take a lesson from you.

Cyril

Flintoff, if there are better, cheaper, players abroad, then Derby have the option to buy one. Just suppose I lent your household my up-and-coming young butler. Would you undermine his position with me and not expect me to be annoyed ?

When you stop being 'holier than thou' about who and how we should reply to you, then you may get some respect. Respect though, has to be earned.

flintoff

Mr Cyril, reading yours and a few other posters on here I would not expect a civil reply from you, you and a few others are just full of hate and can`t wait to moan at the slightest thing, maybe its the hot weather, who knows ?

Cyril

flintoff, there cannot be hate involved. I don't know you. I do remember lobbing a few bombs at you earlier on simply because your posts were critical of MY club yet you denied being a Wulfie Troll. Start from here : THIS site is basically for Baggies supporters.

Now go to here, we are open to friendly discussion from anyone, plus a bit of banter.

IF you decide to insult Baggies or pick flies off every item, don't be surprised if we shoot back, from the hip too. Simples !

PS: If you fall off that horse, you'll hurt yourself.

This is just another one of his tactics.

He winds everybody up and when you have a go back he behaves like a shocked maiden aunt and plays the sympathy card.

He/she's pathetic.

AndyH

Now now Flinty.....don't spoilt it by being naughty. Cyril's a top poster and top man imo...and when I was racially got at on another thread was one of the first to step up in my defence...which I appreciate. I responded to you in kind as your post was a decent post....a normal conversation really.

Now then....as for posts full of hate...that's a bit strong fella......

hope you're well

This guy/gal flintoff comes on here with a couple of posts, quite harmless at first, but when any of us disagree with what he/she says, he/she suddenly turns it all round saying we are full of hate and have a fixation with him/her. Both myself and Bully have gone through this with him/her each time we have disagreed with it's posts.

It does the same on the Wulfie site as well, all smarmy calling everybody Mr. Obviously has no friends, not even a club to support as it won't come out and claim any allegiance to any club. Should change his/her name to Johnny/Joanna no mates.

Come on George, have some respect for the Baggies and show some loyalty. We've looked after during injuries, loaned you out to get some football. Come out and tell Derby you don't want to move. We could have stuck you in the reserves to play, and no-one would know who you were. Show some 'nads and fight for your place. COYB. Oh!! PS - Derby, *$$# off

Derby are harassing Albion and unsettling a player they do not want to sell, therefor this should be reported to the F.A. and they should take action against the offending club and set a precedent.

The View From Baggy Bottom

George,

Those nice people at Derby, who love you so much and make you feel wanted, well, they only rate you at £1M. Do you really not think you are better than that? If not, perhaps you should go. We want players with aspirations. £1M hardly covers your medical bill, let alone the contract you signed. Man up and get on with trying to win a place in a Premier League team. Win and secure a place in our starting line up and you can negotiate a new contract in a years time that will dwarf anything that Derby can offer you at the moment. There are no guarantees that Derby will go up next season. If you really are only good enough for the Chumpionship, we'll let you go soon enough, but not if you throw a tantrum mind. It seems you are being badly advised.

TVFB♥B

do lallytap

It's all good and well but why keep someone who wants to go ?

It's OK you lot saying 5 million....6 million but he will be worthless when out of contract, like Billy Jones.

Look, we have been here before and I said it last week, Irvine needs to sit down with him and talk to him and if he still 100% certain he wants to leave then let him go....if he wants to stop THEN slap a 5 or 6 million price tag on his head.

It was only a couple of weeks ago when Thorne said that if he is "made" to stay and he gets picked to go on the bench then he will refuse to sit there.....Do you REALLY want that type of player here ??

AndyH

Hi do,

mate...I personally think we should play a little harder with him here and I hope the club do put it to him that he has a chance of forcing his was into the side....

at times our midfield last term was weak and, from what little we've seen granted, he can tackle - pass and breaks forward to support. His pace isn't lightning BUT he seems to think quickly so....depending on formation we play he could slot in fairly quickly...

If he pushes it then maybe sell....but if he refuses to sit on the bench then he opens himself up to all types of recriminations. And selling must be at a good price because he's a class prospect...so when I said 5 / 6 million.....that's what we paid for big Vic and Sess....

regards

AndyH

do lallytap

Hi Andy....Which is why I said sit him down with Irvine and see how those talks goes, if he still wants to leave then why hold onto him.

As for 5/6 million for a player with little experience in the Prem does seem a bit extreme ?

£2m and I would snap their hand off....thats if he still wants out

AndyH

Afternoon,

my valuation is a little on the high side i'll grant you..but according to "the press" ( and I believe them whole heartedly!!) Luke Shaw has been valued ta £40M by Southampton....he's had a good season yes but how much!!!!! £40 MILLION!!!!!! I thought they were asking a lot at £20 odd...so on that basis we can keep hold of George and when he's had a good season we can sell him for about £25M at least....

yes I am being pedantic but I think the world has, just this moment, gone completely tonto.

Regards

AndyH

You should appreciate more than most that George Thorne is worth far more than a derisory 1 million pounds. You have coached hundreds of players, all with differing values, and you can easily spot a young player who Derby will sell on at a decent profit in the future. Well this time it is our club who should be getting the profit from a youngster we have nurtured through injuries, invested in with his coaching, and allowed to got out on loan to get fit after time out from the game.

George Thorne,

You need to realise what your club has done for you in the not so distant past and show some loyalty. You will be better coached with us and hopefully fulfil your undoubted potential. U21 football will be no good to you if you persist with your requests to go to Derby.

THEGREENMAN

Mad Shaver

Let him go,you'll never hear of him again,he ain't a premier player.A million pounds could be put to better use.

The Real Bully Hoo.

This lad (or more likely his agent) has shown great disrespect to the club that has paid for him to learn his football, paid for his treatment and wages through a long injury lay off, and given him a bigger contract.

In my view he should be treated with equal disrespect, he needs to be put in his place. He's not the tail trying to wag the dog he's a flea on that tail. I wouldn't give him the respect of being sat down with the manager for a cosy chat. I'd put him with the youth team and let the message filter down through whoever the new youth team coach is that he'll stay there until he makes it clear that he wants to play for this club. I'd also make it clear that if he is sold it won't be for a bargain basement fee and it won't be to Derby County.

As for Derby, I'd complain to the powers that be about their underhand attempt to unsettle a young player in order to sign him on the cheap. I know the FA will do FA as usual but the publicity would be an embarrassment to Derby. We underwent the same scenario with Chris Wood and Milwall (not that Wood himself behaved badly in that case) but we eventually received the fee he was worth rather than what Milwall tried to get him for.

DancesWithWolves

A measly million for George Thorne? We've paid more than that for tea boys! My first thought is sign him up for Wolves, but I can see the warning signs. We carried the likes of Michael Kigntly and Wayne Hennessey through long injuries, and guess what, when they're fit they want to leave. Hennessey even refused to play for the first team earlier this year. Hopefully your new coach can turn the player around but if not, cash in big time if you can. We've had it up to here with prima donnas and look where they got us. It's a long road back for us.

RobinBrittain

Derby don't have the money to make a realistic offer for George so I wouldn't worry too much. Only by selling some of their good young players will they raise the cash and I can't see McLaren doing that.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Robin.

Swap deal for Will Hughes?

I'd snap their hands off for that.

Cyril

I agree with Bully on one major point. He MUST NOT be sold to Derby. There's a lesson here for all loan players and clubs who loan players. If the player clicks with you, the privilege of 'seeing what you're buying' is a big privilege and must not be spoiled.

I'd have loved the chance to try out a new lawn mower for six months and if I was happy with it, offer a pittance for it. Most shops you'd end up with a new collar, the lawn mower !

THEGREENMAN

Have Derby got any good full backs they could tempt us with in a deal for Thorne, should the worse happen and we do a deal ?

We, as a club have done nothing wrong with George Thorne. We have looked after him through his injury problems, paid him while he was out of action, fixed him up with a team on loan to get match fit, and this is how we are repaid. His agent and family need to step back and realise what has been done for him by our club. It could escalate into an Odemwhingie situation and that is the last thing we need during the rebuilding programme that we are in at present. I'm all for getting him and his agent in to sort the situation, so that all involved know exactly where we stand. If he still wants to go after that get as much as we can for him. JP is good at holding out for good money for players.

THEGREENMAN

The Real Bully Hoo.

Like I said to Robin, they want him offer them a swap for Will Hughes. Let's unsettle one of their decent young players and see how they like it. After all we'd be offering young Will PL football.

Cyril

Bully, that's called fighting fire with fire and I'm all for that. Turning the other cheek never had any appeal.

Web Storm Baloni

on George Thorne, well, din't we ourselves loan Lukaku, and also Kieran Richardson? They both did a brilliant job for us... but the thing is, we never could have bought either of these great players... Isn't that what Derby are doing now with Thorne...? Loan him because they can't afford to buy... That's how it works, dosn't it...? If Thorne really wants away, he'll end up playing for a bigger club than Derby are ... Bet your smelly socks on it...

The Real Bully Hoo.

Nobody's complaining about the loan system, it's there to be used. The problem is that Derby are abusing it.
