West Brom deny Youssouf Mulumbu could leave The Hawthorns

Albion today laughed off claims that Youssouf Mulumbu could leave this summer as their head coach search rumbled on.

The Baggies have reacted with indifference to the latest summer claims from Mulumbu’s representatives that the midfielder could move on.

And attentions behind the scenes at The Hawthorns are focused instead on finding Pepe Mel’s successor, with the club still keen to make an appointment early next week.

Mulumbu, who signed a new two-year deal at the start of last season with an extra year’s option in Albion’s favour, is no stranger to summer speculation with his name linked to moves away in every summer of his Baggies career.

Agent Doug Pingisi said: “Youssouf has completed a good, consistent season despite the difficulties West Brom encountered.

“He’s demonstrated that he’s gone up a level and has matured all round. He’s now aspiring to test himself in European competitions.”

However, Albion officials have privately dismissed the comments.

They are continuing to interview potential candidates to replace Mel but ex-Swansea boss Michael Laudrup is unlikely to be among them after he appeared to rule himself out of the running.

Laudrup, who led Swansea to Capital One Cup success in 2013 but left the club last season amid frosty relations with his players, had been favoured by a section of the Albion fanbase as the ideal man to take over at The Hawthorns.

But the Denmark legend told the media in his homeland: “I have talked to clubs in England and Spain.

“I will try to not sound arrogant now, because I am not, but it has been clubs on a level where I have already been.

“I have tried smaller clubs in the two big leagues, Getafe and Mallorca in Spain and Swansea in the Premier League.

“Therefore, I do not see any reason to repeat it.

“That leaves with me two options: to wait for an offer from a big club or accept one of the offers I have received from clubs outside Europe.”

Len of Bournville

Here we go again, with Mulumbu's agent doing his annual party piece. Still, maybe if we can get £15 million, replace him with George Thorne, and use the money for a top striker, that might be good business !

BitterBanter

Reasonable logic. GT not exactly tough tackling though.

UTB

peter.lineton.9

Michael Laudrup arrogant.Where on eath has that accusation come from? Perish the thought. Wasn't one of the reasons he was given his P45 by Swansea, the fact that he was forever swanning off on "holiday" to Spain or wherever and leaving all the work to his staff. Is this what his fans at West Brom would want to foist on the club.

He has obviously set his mind on a much "bigger" club, somewhere, preferrably Spain, that would sate his ego.

.

Kev in Mallorca

We dow want him over here!

peter,

He was never in the running anyway, hope he can get his head through the double doors when if ever a big club offer him an interview, maybe Real Madrid or Barcelona will sign him up as a char woman.

In answer too Mr Pingisi, while acknowledging Youssouf has been a great signing for WBA his performances last season were well below that of previous , in particular the accuracy of his distribution fell way below the standard we have come to expect IMO.

As for the story, true or not, it's just the usual merry-go-round of a closed season.

Adeu

Wall Heath Baggie

Give me a player who did perform well last season marmate .

Shropshirebaggy

Ben Foster, Boaz Myhill, Victor Anichibe, Jonas Olsson, Gareth MaCauley?

I would have to question Anichibe cos he's never fit , good call on the others though.

E&D,

Everyone loves our players because they are so good. Albion search for a new Head Coach is not " Rumbling on ", it is still in line with the format Jeremy Peace set out. Now go and big up the Rowe signing, here is a prompt: This is a mossive snitch by our favourite club, now wolves will certainly realize their dream of Premiership football. Don't forget to finish with,

It's always predictable that sponging parasites - sorry, player's agents - will try to advertise 'their boy' to the highest bidder-

the fact that the player recently signed a new contract with his existing club doesn't get in the way of these morally bankrupt 'middle men' drooling over their 'cut' from a different deal set up elsewhere-

"Rocking the boat" Agents I'm afraid !!

UTW

Wbaforever

Agents by their very nature are always trying to promote their "product" They of course are trying to look after the clients best interests, and the fact that they get a nice juicy cut is of no relevance.

Despite Albion`s fervent denial, if a carrot of sufficient size were to be metaphorically waved .............We all know Mulumbu would be allowed to leave.

However, the recent talk of £4M is simply asinine.

Wall Heath Baggie

Asinine ? great word that . How's the golf going ?.

Super

You know the comments made by Maninsider, Karlwulf, and their ilk...............You get the picture mate.

Jackett the Hat

Laudrup doesn't want to join another small club, so the media automatically write off his Albion chances. Fantastic.

Another point Mr Laudrup ,is that if like you say you have no arrogance, you wouldn't fit in anyway, but like Swansea Mr Laudrup, they are also a bit of a stranger to silverware......is it possible you could turn things around and take a good 25,000 on a trip to Wembley......you must admit that it would be one of your biggest challenges to date.

Cyril

Meanwhile, Sheffield Utd have told that MOSSIVE club nearby that 5 bob and a big apple might get decent players when you're in Division 3 but Harry McGuire is Championship quality and they must break the bank to get him. (19shillings and sixpence might just do it though).

PS: Jackett The Tw*t, that's 97-1/2 pence to you.

Captain Mardon International

I can understand Jacket as a Wo1ve5 fan you must be feeling quite smug due to winning the division 3 title. It's a realistic award based on the level of football you are able compete at.

So in terms of recent silverware you win I suppose.

Jackett the Hat

It's not winning division 3 that makes me smug Captain, it's the fact that we're the third most successful club in the country, it makes the ' at least wim Premier League bay we ' phrases sound a bit desperate don't you think.

so d'yer still wanna dish out all those nasty personal insults about people's appearances that you love to make.....???

LAUGHED OFF/RUMBLED ON. here we go again. nothing to report...

RobinBrittain

Sounds like another agent trying to engineer a pay out for himself.

As for Laudrup whist he had moderate success at Swansea I cant see any major European club rushing to employ him and based on his previous record he may have a long wait to secure a job at a major club.

In the same way that that players like Ronaldo , Messi and Bale are restricted to playing for only the biggest and most successful clubs there is a small group of managers including the likes of Ancelloti and Mourinhio who only move within a small circle of the biggest or richest clubs. I can't see Laudrup joining the elite group..

CantelloRocket 78

I heard wolves fans got excited recently when rumours spread that they were in for a 'Bonus' with the arrival of Michael Laudrup-

their hopes were dashed when the true story came out that at half time next season, the custard bowl screens will be showing episodes of 'Bonanza' with Michael Landon.....;-)

Shropshirebaggy

I heard that during a recent pitch invasion somebody threw a quid on the pitch, police aren't whether it was a misile or a takeover bid

Cyril

Nice one Shrop. My family liked that even though their football interest is close to nil.

JA

Another day and another disappointing headline if you are an Albion fan.

It is vital that we appoint a new head coach quickly to stop all this nonsense!

David Moyes is the man for me, why are we wasting time lets get him on board NOW!

Come on JP lets move on to re-building the squad for next season NOW!

The appointment of David Moyes would give the club a massive lift,

he would also attract the quality players we need to improve our squad!

COYB!

Kev in Mallorca

JA

Dow Mr Moyes av a say in it?

Adeu

JA

I would have thought that he would like this opportunity to show the world especially Man United what he can do to prove a point. Roy Hodgson did this when he did so well for us after leaving Liverpool.

Now do you get it?

Kev in Mallorca

JA

But that's your assumption, the tone of your post suggests JP and co are dragging their feet and Mr Moyes has applied for the job.

Now do you get it ?

Adeu

Cyril

JA. Whilst I too would like Moyes, you can hardly expect him to jump in by wagging a finger in his direction. His ego will have been bruised, he will be 'touchy' as shown by his recent bar fracas, he will need to know our set up is as good as we know it is. What is in our favour is we do not expect to win very much, just finish in a decent position. THAT he is certainly capable of and may just appeal to him. But 'NOW' is just not going to happen, so relax mate.

JA

I am fed up with waiting mate!

We do need some action ASAP I think that we should have moved quicker that's all.

Like you I want next season to be better than last season when too many bad decisions were made.

COYB

Wbaforever

Cyril & JA

I do not believe the Hawthorns hierarchy are considering David Moyes..............I understand that ones preferences are subjective, but he too would be my choice from the endless list of candidates.

He has now been unemployed for around a month, we have had a vacancy for roughly the same amount of time, as far as I am aware Moyes has not distanced himself from the Albion job...................Which leaves me with one conclusion.

If a man with his credentials is willing and available, and has not been approached during a four week period............then it is most unlikely that will change.

Kev in Mallorca

WBA

Where have you read that he has not been approached?

Adeu

Cyril

Wbaforever. I think our lot decided to take their holiday right now and after last season I can sympathise. Moyes said he'd had approaches from 2 Prem clubs. I think, or hope, we are one of them. One thing goes in our favour. Players and staff know their wages are there each month. Our wages are probably mid-range, but we tend to employ mid-range performers. What's one more week anyway ?

THEGREENMAN

This is a big time of the year for all agents( good or bad) because they have more time to negotiate contracts or, instigate moves for their many clients. Youssouf Mulumbu's agent is no different, having already negotiated a new contract last season.

Now he sees an opportunity to try and get his client a move while the club is in the process of recovering from a poor season ---- a poor season that he was very much a part of.!!

Shropshirebaggy

The club don't have to sell Mulumbu, he's under contract therefore unless we receive an offer of serious money, he'll be going nowhere.

Wall Heath Baggie

And of course no player under contract ever engineers a move do they ? .

I am just glad Baggie Bird aye gooin cos its getting to the point of will the last one out turn the lights off.

Shropshirebaggy

Of course they do but my point is that unless JP receives a decent offer, we won't be selling. Just my opinion mate.

Captain Mardon International

We would be pretty screwed without him all the same. IMO he's been the lynchpin for us, even on an off day he tackles, fights, passes, runs endlessly. Quality player.

But don't you think that's like starting an untrue rumour at a time when some don't need any more encouragement too sling the mud.?

Adeu

Wbaforever

I stayed off these boards for a while because of the puerile behaviour of certain ones made a mockery of debate.

I certainly refute you bizarre claim. I am addressing my posts and engaging posters that are known to share points on which to debate.

Kev in Mallorca

WBA

I'm not trying to offend or start an argument and I'm sorry if my questioning offends you in anyway.

I thought I was debating your misrepresentation of the facts so as not too add fuel to the fire.

Mr Moyes would be high on my list but I wouldn't put it out that IMO the club have done something which to many would seem detrimental to their preferred conclusion.

I don't see how my claim is bizarre, after all your conclusion is that he hasn't been approach, when I don't know if he has or he has not.

Sorry if I've touch a nerve or I'm sorry if you just don't like me but for the life of me I can't think why?

Let just put it down to a misunderstanding and start afresh shall we?

Adeu

Cyril

wbaforever. I contemplated packing it all in, even NOT renewing my season ticket. I thought a round 70 years was smooth and I could sign off. I would never have to listen to the 97dB racket that is hammered at us before, during and after matches, the trolls could all go drown themselves, etc.

Then I half-mentioned this thought around me on the last match and got a 'You can't do that, you've got to come' and especially from a smashing Welsh man and his daughter who travel quite a way.

Now, how do we get the 97dB reduced to say 60dB and will the trolls please drown themselves ? Oh, and will you keep posting ? These 3 minor measures will justify the renewal.

PS: Where's my mate Bully ?

CantelloRocket 78

Cyril,

I haven't heard from Bully recently, but he tends to quietly slip away each year to a holiday destination, without mentioning it on here-

I'm puttin' a tenner on North Devon, and expect to see him back here next week.....

Cyril

Cheers Rocket. I thought that was probably it, but it certainly does NOT pay to make one's movements known to all.

Oh to be in England now it's peeing down with rain. Robert Browning

JA

You don't know any more than any of us, because JP keeps everything very close to his chest. People are entitled to their views so I would suggest that you respect that and stop Knit picking.

I for one will not be posting again.

Kev in Mallorca

JA

I may be wrong here cause it isn't clear who this post is directed but cause of the misunderstanding I've had with WBA I'll take it was me.

I thought debates were for fans too give opinions on what other fans have said and to my mind that's exactly what I've done.

I hope I've squared it with WBA and I will attempt too explain my comments too you, as that what these boards are for, either you agree or disagree.

You stated "why are we wasting time lets get him on board now"

Are we in talks with him? How do you know we haven't already asked him and he's turned us down?

Surely I can disagree the same as others with one of your posts without you taking the 'ump, and I'll apologize if your post was meant elsewhere, too my mind that's a debate.

Adeu

Wbaforever

Kev

I assure you, offended I am not. A little puzzled maybe.

Please correct me if I have interpreted your post wrongly.

Given the nature of what been happening, the threads being hijacked by..........I won`t expand further, it`s unprintable.

You were suggesting that my views/opinion could be seized upon by any number of "them" and used in attempt to besmirch our club, in their usual vitriolic manner.

If so, then let me say. If certain posters keep feeding them the oxygen they crave, they will always be here.

Furthermore, if all of this is correct and as you put it "some encouraged to sling mud"........Although irksome. Do we really and ultimately give a single toss about what they write.

We cannot self censor what we believe and not debate with other genuine Baggies, because they are waiting in the wings with their banalities.

Kev in Mallorca

WBA

ARHH! Now I see where you have misinterpreted my words.

As you know from my recent posts I have no interest whatsoever in what The Dingles have too say, except Latka and family that is, my concern is that it would encourage, shall we say the more negative among us, as we have enough problems with some Baggies fans slinging mud in all directions.

As you well know if enough fans even speculate untrue's by the time it gets too the back of The Brummie it's gospel.

All it would have took is for you too have said"and may have not been approached" instead of "and has not been approached" I would never have disturbed your relaxing afternoon.

Again I'm sorry if I offended you, I suppose you were just unlucky that I took such interest in your post, but there again you put it out there for debate and I think we've debated it don't you? xx

I can recall several posts from this person which gave the distinct impression he wasn't one of the nice guys. Some of the posts were aimed at myself and not very complimentary. Maybe he IS genuine and just got caught up in the rubbish we have gone through in the past week. I must admit I was shocked when he made the apology.

I realise his post was sent to you but felt I should let you know my knowledge of lycanthrope36.

CantelloRocket 78

TGM,

as you know, the main problem is people can post on the net without being seen, so it attracts all kinds - genuine guys, troublemakers, and weirdos - and you're often in the dark-

If 'lycanthrope' is being sincere, then it should be appreciated and acknowledged, but if it's just an attempt to grab someone's attention, or a wind-up at the expense of a bereavement, then it can only be seen as the result of a sick mind.

Which is why I've always prefered to talk face to face with people, observing 'body language' alone can tell you a lot about a person, as well as having a proper conversation with them.

Please, say you'll stay and you will become legend passed down through the generations of free Baggies who will tell tales to their children and grandchildren of the brave men who gave their all so that we can post oppinions unhindered by those nasty dingle trolls who so nearly overwhelmed our threads.

Good man!!

Now, back to your duties and keep us informed of your progress.

BB,

I find Capey's posts strike me as a cross between Spike Milligan and Chubby Brown - I shouldn't laff, but can't stop meself-

problem is, we have a handful of obsessed 'visitors' who can't stop themselves from throwing jibes 24 hours a day over here - often in such bad taste their posts have to be removed - and it's these 'individuals' that squeal the most in protest about Capey-

can't they see that if they stayed away, he wouldn't have any ammunition to throw at 'em??

No one's forced to read this stuff, but if you go out your way to come over here, then you make the personal decision to read stuff you may not like......it's your choice.......

Rocket,

Absolutely right mate. If they don't like it and can't understand the difference between comedy and hate fuelled vitriolic comments, they don't need to read it. They can ignor it, as we do.

What do you make of Johneboywolves, by the way? He seems to have some promise and Capey obviously finds him amusing. He,(johneboy), did stand up against Jacketts racist rant the other day, (for which I thanked him). Should we give him a chance to join in, (if he wants to that is)? Should we extend the paw of freindship? On probation, perhaps!

Mr Cantello

I'd like to think all football fans show an interest outside of their club? Agreed, some posts are just plain rude but you always get fools who attempt to be witty and clever.

I believe that healthy banter is good and often amusing. My confession is that I address a certain person as Jack the Rash, but that's purely because he seems to leave posts everywhere. But that's his prerogative and I would defend that.

My other confession is that I sometimes use the term Sandwell Town but again that's in my weaker moments when I see Dingle, dog's head, custard factory et al. It's a lame excuse at retaliation with words and I'm having therapy to cesist.

May the jolly banter continue.

Rocket, definitely Spike Milligan esc', and probably the reason capehill's literary talents make me laff..

You may already know this, but Spike still managed to have the last laff even after his death, with the epitaph on his gravestone which reads "I told you I was ill"

I couldn't possibly draw that parallel with capehill though !!

On a final note, and reference to the recent "vitriolic banter"... a long time ago a mentor of mine told me to always remember "he who makes you angry, controls you"

So I'd rather laff !!

Apologies for the non footy related post..

BB,

to be honest mate, I've spent over 6 years on here, and I'm fine with normal banter, but the last couple of years we've had a troublemaking troll and a couple of obsessives plaguing the site with either constant attempts to disrupt us, or a continual stream of very bitter - and often deluded - jibes, so it's generally become less pleasant on here.

If 'Joneboywolves' or others want a bit of tongue-in-cheek, friendly banter, that's ok with me, but as for the others - including those that try to insult our intelligence - I'd rather just try to shake 'em off and leave them behind, I really don't want to waste any more time on them.

CantelloRocket 78

Stokie,

I always start a fresh thread with the intention of interesting football chat, and a degree of humour, if it's suitable or relevant at the time-

I'm a big comedy fan, from top British and U.S. TV series, right back in time - I've even got large box sets of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Laurel and Hardy, and The Marx Brothers-

but threads are often 'hijacked', and you tend to get dragged down into it-

hopefully we can find ways to overcome or rise above it all in the future.

As for apologising for non-football chat-

no need, if anyone objects, stuff 'em.....;-)

True artists have to have a little madness in their profile ---- and you have more than the rest of us put together. Absolutely brilliant, the mark of a legend.

Even some of the neighbours are in awe of you. Ok you will get the odd troll who, in the words of Corporal Jones ----'' Don't like it up 'em '', but they are just jealous. Keep up the good work.!!

Ladies Please

This was a thread about Mulumbu leaving the club

Given our Chairman's resolve at squeezing every last penny out of anyone interested

in our players, lets not panic.

Given the fact that we still haven't appointed a new head coach, don't panic.

As for tearing strips off each other, what's the point. We all support the same team, yes we have different opinions but that's just life.

Now kiss and make up!!!!!!!

Marc

Yes the thread was about Mulumbu leaving the club but inevitably without a new man at the helm thoughts will stray.

I'm not sure there has been any strips tore off, I just thought there had been some differences of opinion, it's funny how people see things differently but there again if they didn't we wouldn't be here would we?

Kev, absolutely right m8, Im all for diplomacy, but not for dingle law to be imposed on our bit of the www. by the mods. Look at the vets ,( oops sorry dingles , didn't mean to frighten ya), see Kev. Now its time to celebrate our veterans that's what I wanted to say, sadly that was seventy years ago, they must be average age of say 90 now, bless em. From all over the Common Wealth, and the world, But again as you say we see things differently don't we, if we didn't , wed all be under occupation from Dingles, so here s to the new coach, new players and the new season. boing boing

Morning,

A story about Mulumbu's potential departure...it must be the summer....

Agent talk at best as we've heard nothing about an actual offer, and as I recall the only rumour during the back end of the season was about Everton but they've signed Barry on a free so I'd suspect that puts that one to bed.

Yes we need a head coach...but that should be sorted in the very near future.....yes we need a few bodies in....but they will follow the head coach.. and you never know who may shine at the world cup that we could still sign as well as there will be players in so called "lesser" teams there that will be available to us...

I'll not panic until the opening day of the season and then only because the butterflies will start again....(normal match day nerves)...

regards

Interesting piece in the Birmingham Mail which includes comments from the Supporters Club chairman. The Mail reporter states that Tim Sherwood has become one of the bookies favourites for our Head Coach job. Depending on which bookie you look at Sherwood's odds have indeed dropped to between 4-1 and 7-1, but the reporter claims that Sherwood isn't one of the candidates seen so far, but with the club saying the selection will take until early next week there is still time for Sherwood to be considered. Although the likes of Clement / Hughton / Laudrup / Jones / Mackay / Lennon / Hoddle are all said to be out of the running, all the bookies still have them on their betting lists.

AndyH

I have to agree with all you say, no need to panic, just chill and wait until early next week for the all important announcement.

The View From Baggy Bottom

TGM,

If I was still a betting man, (which thankfully I'm not), and the favorite was at about 4/1, I would be looking further down the field to find the value bet.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at an interview between Sherwood and JP. I doubt it would last much more than five minutes.

Personally I think Sherwood would do better taking a job like Leeds in the Championship, so that he can work on his man management skills before trying to find another Premier League Club.

It's not going to be easy for JP to find a new head coach who won't be seen as a disappointment to at least some of us, unless he can pul off a deal for Moyes, who I think the majority of us could rally around, even if he's not everybody's first choice. Failing that, Ranieri,( yes, Pembs.Baggie, I do agree), would have a certain wow factor, at least for a while. Very few of the others would unite us in truth, even though most of us would declare our intention to get behind the new man, some of us would be underwhelmed.

JP can't just force anyone he wants to come to us. If certain people rule themselves out, he has to pick from whats available. I don't envy him at all.

Quite agree reference Sherwood, I wouldn't put money on him at any price.

Moyes has apparently told the Guardian that he wants a club in the Champions League ( even abroad ),or a team capable of challenging for Europe. I guess that puts us out of the picture, unless, as you say, JP can really sell it to him. I fear that would mean spending far too much money. We don't want to end up like the noisy neighbours do we.

Apologies for early post.
