Cyril

The first sentence in this article is not accurate. If Paul Clement gets our job, he will be Chief Coach and not a Manager. We don't 'do managers' at Albion.

Still something of a risk factor involved too in the way Pepe was. Must do my season ticket today. Tarra a bit.

euroboundbaggie

Ticket office closed today Cyril, that's why I did mine last week.

Cyril

eurobog, I shall do mine ON LINE sonny, as you could if you'd get a computer. I'll make you an offer you can't refuse. FOR ONE MATCH ONLY, I'll exchange seats with you. Mine, 1/2 way line near as dammit, 2nd tier East Stand, perfect view all round. Yours.... and I do NOT want one of those seats in the Moulinex facing away from the pitch, or those ones that fall over. Is it a deal ?

ELDERVO

Der ! Wouldn't he already have a computer if he's posting on here Cryil ?

Cyril

Ooh Redvelo, you are so observant and clever

Now all you need is a little subtlety to add to your charm and you could become a REAL BAGGIE !

Did u see Campbell, ?

The Real Bully Hoo.

Thanks for the reminder Cyril. I always put off the inevitable battle with the club's online booking system until the last minute and end up rushing on the last day.

.

Step. 1. Log in to be told password not recognised.

Step. 2. Press forgotten password (which I haven't) to be told to go to Email inbox to receive Email that never materialises.

Step. 3. Ring club and sit through blaring music to be given temporary password which does arrive.

Step. 4. Enter temporary password to be told that system doesn't recognise my password.

Step. 5. Sit back and wonder if it would have been easier to spend two hours of my time driving to the ground, £10 pound worth of petrol and paying £10 pound extra for my ticket.

Cyril

Bully, been there done it several times, nearly got a Baggies tee shirt. Such fun !

Cyril

Bully, I finally managed to renew my season ticket ! When you have confirmed who you are, (that takes for ever), you get 5 minutes to do the money and personal details, That would be fine IF the website worked. You click on something, then you wait and wait, and it appears. You fill it in. You wait and wait and it appears.

My first effort 'Timed Out' so I had to do the lot again and this time I managed it with SECONDS to spare.

It was like swimming in GLUE ! I maintain my computers in fast condition, so it was either incompatibility with AOL or their website is SSHugar and Spice ! I shall report it to them.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Cyril.

I'm doing mine tomorrow. Now you've told me that I really can't wait to get started.

On a lighter note it's good news for all my fans as I probably won't be clogging these pages up so much tomorrow.

Cyril

Bully, I told my nephew about it and he wants to renew his from my house ! That'll be the main computer tied up all night then. I'll try Firefox instead of AOL and see what happens.

But AOL works fine on this newspaper and the DM. both of which are excellent websites.

Which points to Baggies website being carp as Kev calls it.

The Real Bully Hoo.

Cyril.

I've finally done it ( well I hope I have as I haven't received my confirmation Email yet.)

1. As expected I couldn't log in with my old password or with postcode as system tells you to, it just comes up as not recognised.

2. Ring club and wait on system for helpful lady to say I'll put you on as wba123 you'll be able to log in now.

3. Try to login as wba123 but timer clock just goes round and round but never actually logs in.

4. Repeat step 2 and explain to lady what has happened. Lady tells me exactly the same as the one in step 2.

5. Repeat step 3 with exactly the same result.

6. Speak to helpful lady who says I'll renew it over the phone then.

Good job that we're supporters and not customers as is the modern vernacular because as a customer I'd have been tempted to say, 'stuff it, I can't be bothered, I'll go elsewhere.'

The View From Baggy Bottom

Paul Clement is an interesting contender, but I think our recent experience with SC, who had a very similar background, will go against him. The other problem for me is that, if he was successful at Albion we would only have him for a couple of seasons before he would be stolen away by one of the big boys. I suppose if we tied him to a long contract we would get plenty of compo from whoever took him away, but if he had a long contract and it didn't work out, we would be stuck with a huge bill if we wanted to sack him. Is it worth the risk? I don't think so myself, not when there are plenty of tried and tested candidates out there.

The consequences for Albion, if we get the choice of Head Coach wrong this time could be dire. Paul Clement would seem to be a bit of a gamble and I doubt that JP is in the mood to gamble this time around. A safe pair of hands is required.

1.Moyes,(whatever it takes)

2.Mc.Laren,(two year deal plus a year in our favour)

3.Hoddle,(on a short or rolling contract)

It's only my opinion. No need to SHOUT me down.

Well, I have to say that I agree that Moyes should be at all costs. The situation with him is very similar to the one that Woy was in and he will have something to prove to his doubters.

I wouldn't like to have McLaren here though for no other reason than I just don't like him.

Hoddle would be a good shout. Just a little concerned that he is a it too in touch with his crazy side so the rolling contract idea could work.

The only problem with rolling contracts with big names is that, if they do really well with us, they would be out of the door as soon as a bigger club came sniffing around him.

Boing Boing!!

The View From Baggy Bottom

TJoFB,(really!!)

Moyes is probably the only one that might stay with us long enough to bring stabillity to the club. If he came in and got the backing of JP, I can't see him rushing off to get his fingers burnt again like he did at MU.

Speaking of Woy, wouldn't it be great if he went and won the World Cup. All those pundits and news media know it alls would have to eat their words and pay homage to Sir Woy.

THEGREENMAN

Well yet again the E&S have come up with a new favourite for the Head Coach job. No surprise really, they have to try and retain our interest somehow. You believe it or you don't.

Paul Clement has worked with some top coaches during his career so far, somewhat similar to Steve Clarke, who also hadn't been the No.1 anywhere until we gave him his big chance. Most of Clement's career has been spent abroad in Paris, Madrid following a spell at Chelsea. Surely if JP is considering this option he is admitting that the sacking of SC was one of his mistakes, although I don't think he specifically referred to it.

Apart from being the brother of Neil Clement not a lot is known about his capabilities as a coach. Obviously to be Assistant at a great club like Real Madrid does say that you have something about you, but is it enough for us to take a chance on yet another untried as a No.1

I like thousands of others was shocked when SC was sacked, but that has been and gone, but I'm not sure that Paul Clement is the answer. Finally Sky Sports are running with ''Paul Clement says he is ready to step into management''. Interesting !!

CantelloRocket 78

It doesn't matter what the Bookies say, it's down to what JP thinks-

so what are we talking about here?-

A guy who's a highly-rated no.2, who's background was at Chelsea, who's been given praise and confidence by his Boss - a Boss who's been in charge at Chelsea and Real Madrid - and having wanted to be a 'no.1' for some time, is now looking for his first opportunity-

is the odd bell ringing here......??

How about re-instating SC from Gardening Leave, and bringing in PC to make them both joint Head Coach at the Baggies?

They may have a lot in common.............

1877wolf

Aye, they do have a lot in common... This is why it won't happen.

Chris 'yes man' Hughton. Having blown your budget last season, you need to bring in 9 players on free transfers, make the gel and keep them up. Recipe for disaster.

I heard that Morrison v Saido 2 is the undercard fight for Froch v Groves 2 Saturday night ;)

The similarities are quite evident, but why should we suddenly become a training ground for up and coming coaches. That would be asking for trouble.

euro

You talk about TVFBB being ''cast a dingle''. The words POT KETTLE BLACK come to mind.

The Real Bully Hoo.

I agree with TGM, the fact that the E&S come up with Today's Cert and it's a different one every day just goes to prove that the club's security is as tight as Fort Knox.

This bloke fits the criteria of being a coach rather than a manager which Moyes doesn't and JP said recently that we won't be changing the system. What we don't know is if he can do the job of being No 1.

This will always be a problem to clubs our size unless we strike lucky with a Roy Hodgson, right time, right place and all that. Otherwise we have to go for a tried and tested plodder like Curbishley or take a risk on the unknown with promise like SC was and Paul Clement would be.

You pays yer money, makes yer choice and takes yer chances..

CantelloRocket 78

Bully,

yep, in a nutshell-

whatever people think about SC, JP sacked him, indicating it wasn't working out-

if the same thing happened with Clement, can you imagine the amount of stick Chairman Peace would get for making the same mistake twice??

And I'm guessing PC would also want us to play 'the Spanish way'-

I wonder if there's any possible warning signs flashing here........??

Jack the Hat

Bully, Cantello, THEGREENMAN,

I don't think it would be quite the same Guys, whoever comes in will share the Head Coach job__

I've no objections to playing ''the Spanish Way'' so long as we have the players to do it. At the moment we have very few who can. I would expect JP to have realised from the Pepe Mel episode that our defenders are too slow to play such a system.

CantelloRocket 78

TGM,

that's what I meant, mate-

if JP wasn't prepared to let Pepe stick around long enough to bring in his own choice of players for the 'Spanish' style, would he be willing to do it for Paul Clement...?

P.S. My post took off before I could finish.

Happy_baggie

Paul Clement's name has come up before - and I think it could be great for us.... he will have the respect of all the squad, he will have some interesting ideas about style of play - and he should have some good contacts in world football. He also has a cast iron link to the club through Neil Clement.

Comparisons have been made with SC which is fair - but PC will have one thing SC didn't - a football man at the top to oversee the "manager" functions - SC only had Richard Garrilck which left him vulnerable afer Ashworth left - Terry Burton will be a major asset to whoever comes in.

THEGREENMAN

Whoever JP chooses it isn't going to please everyone that's obvious, but we have to believe that his admission to getting things wrong last season has spurred him on to get it right this time. If it is Paul Clement or any of the current list of candidates being bandied about, that's it. We must accept that whoever is chosen it is for the best interests of the club and for no other reason. Get behind JP, the board, the new coach, all the players ( new and existing) and most of all support each other. Let's have everybody pulling in the same direction ---- up the league !!!!

THEGREENMAN

Happy_baggie

Excellent point about SC only having Garlick overseeing him. Burton will indeed have a big influence on who we appoint and afterwards as the season goes on.

In truth, because it involves an interesting element of risk, I find the idea of Paul Clements as opening up potentially exciting possibilities, the same way as I hoped to see Pepe be given enough 'new faces' to develop his own style and ideas - I'm sure many of us were eager to see the outcome of that experiment-

but at the same time, I can't help feel JP's public admission that we somehow lost our way last season means he'll be keen to go back to 'solid basics', and this Summer's squad recruitments needs to be in harmony with a new Coach's ideas.

The term 'once bitten, twice shy' keeps coming to mind, but for now, we can only guess what's being discussed behind those four walls.

glassboy baggy

One thing about Paul Clement , if he's like his brother he won't stand any messing about from players or the chairman . Boing Boing

Quinton Baggie

JP has made it clear that he will not change the system that has been a relative success until last season...the new man will more than likely have to work with Downing and Kiely....personally I think he is in the frame given his pedigree...but it is all papertalk until the new man is appointed.

THEGREENMAN

If we are going to do the new coach thing properly shouldn't JP be accepting the fact that whoever the new man is will probably want his own backroom staff. To pick someone and insist that they work with Downing/Kiely is counter productive, and could mean we miss out on a guy who could take us a long way forward. I'm not advocating getting rid of Downing/Kiely as I'm sure they will still be needed in some capacity. In the case of Paul Clement, should he be the chosen one, this might not arise as it's doubtful he would have a backroom staff to bring with him, as it would be his first time in charge.

We just have to wait and see who the E&S have as favourite tomorrow.

Quinton Baggie

TGM - I agree with you but he had Pepe Mel do it...Yes there needs to be a place fro Downing and Kiely but we have had shot across the bows last season so JP needs to get it right.

Jack the Hat

Quinton,

On the other hand mate, where would we be now if Downing and Kiely hadn't been around to take the weight?. Lets not forget what they did when Steve C left and again at the end of this season. ELDERVO

"madrid is a great city", he's gonna love Smerrick.

Not sure it really matters who gets the job though, if as reported here it's the players who make the footballing decisions. Pepe Mel made that quite clear. Whoever comes in needs to be a strong character.

Seriously though, Clement has loads of experience and must have some great contacts so you could do a lot worse. Just can't see Moyes being in the frame at the min but if the appointment drags on and he hasn't committed nearer to the new season start, he might just fancy the post if JP offers him a budget he feels he could work with. Interesting times.

with a member of Paul Clement's Family having spent a few years at the Baggies, I'm sure he's familiar with the West Midlands, and it's doubtful if he's shallow or vain enough to start bad-mouthing towns, like some snobbish status-symbol chaser - yer know, the old 'fur coat and no knickers' syndrome....??

As for 'interesting times' at Albion - certainly enough to catch your interest, it seems?

I guess it's better than waiting for news as to whether wolves can capture one - or wait for it - TWO third division players from the Blades, eh....??

Funny how you suddenly turn up trying to pour cold water on the story that the Baggies are linked with someone who's just become part of the Champion's League winning outfit - some might think it's motivated by jealousy.......hmmmmm...........perish the thought, eh....??

Jack the Hat

ELDERDER,

Madrid is a great City now they have cleared the Dinglehampton-like slums. No it doesn't matter to you who gets the Albion job as your club doesn't have to get whupped by us again next season. Players make decisions, you mean like your big earns have decided to stay on and drain the cash out of your club?. Strong Character, like Roger Johnson, the only thing that was strong about him was the smell of booze. Whoever we get in won't be a clipboard Connor, what a good catch he was. Bet it is worth the seven quid to go into your Antique shop to view that clipboard. And please JP sort out our new coach .!!!!!!

CantelloRocket 78

Just part of today's speculation and rumours-

it's claimed Albion have distanced themselves from talk of Lennon or Hughton as potential Head Coach, but Malkey McKay's still highly thought of at the Baggies-

on the playing front, yet again Albion are said to be keeping a close watch on Aaron Cresswell at Ipswich, although he's got 3 years left on his contract, and 20 per cent of any transfer fee will go to Tranmere, his previous club, so I can't see him being cheap if he does leave....

The Real Bully Hoo.

Rocket.

I don't know if you saw it but the bit that caught my eye was Gareth MaCauley saying that the players can't wait to get back because they know they need to put right what went wrong last season. He doesn't seem the sort to talk a load of waffle.

One thing I wonder about with Paul Clement is his lack of a playing career. Not something that bothers me, think Jose Mourinho but I remember the players not listening to Dave McDonough because he 'hadn't played the game.' Having said that I suppose it's not so much what you say as how you say it.

CantelloRocket 78

Bully,

There's an element of fun in 'guess who?', but recent Baggies hot-seat appointments have taken us by suprise, so who knows what awaits us??

My dabble of the week?

Well the likes of Lennon and Hughton may be 'distanced', Sherwood potentially abrasive, Hoddle out of touch, Moyes possibly waiting for interest from high profile clubs, Clement inexperienced, McLaren possibly staying put, etc., etc.-

This week's fiver would be slapped on Malky McKay - available, experienced, disciplined, apparently highly rated by the Albion hierarchy-

Corals have just cut his odds to 8-1, but Paddypower are currently offering 16-1,

go make a killing........!!! ;-)

bob.williamsfindlay

My choice from the day Pepe Mel left. It is a risk, but is it bigger than any associated with the list of failures lined up already by the Express and Star? Steve Clarke wasn't a bad coach, but he had no plan B when things went wrong and I don't believe he had enough experienced support as others have already stated. Burton and Clement look like a good blend.

King Jeffs Left Boot

J.P.,get yer finger out man, we need at least 8 players coming through the door this year, no manager no players, it ain't rocket science, don't let it go on till after the World Cup, GET IT SORTED or it will be to late, get Moyes at all costs, break the bank if you have to coz if we go for the cheap option again we will go down, you have to hit the ground running in this league and we all know the rewards for staying up.

I thought betting prices were governed by the amount of money laid on any one contender?, having said that I don't bet.

Jack,

I don't bet either, but bookies will manipulate a stagnent market by creating a run on a particular individual, man/horse, just to stir up some interest. Punters seeing the odds tumble on a favorite want to jump in because they think they must be on a cert.

The market for the next Albion Head Coach has been dead in the water for weeks because the bookies havn't got a clue who to make favorite. So, as soon as a viable prospect appears to throw his hat into the ring, the bookies stimulate income by slashing his odds. It also has the effect of making the odds on other candidates more attractive bwcause they will lengthen, offering value to the wise punter.

A dirty game, best left alone.
