Gareth McAuley today hailed the Anglo-French impact that has got the Baggies buzzing again.
The experienced defender has marvelled at the form of Saido Berahino and Morgan Amalfitano in an Albion team which has been transformed in the last month.
Berahino is Burundi-born but an adopted English star rising through the ranks to make a stunning Premier League impact in the last two games.
His arrival coincided with the signing of Amalfitano on loan from Marseille until the end of the season and both have played key roles in turning a wobbly Baggies start into a launchpad for another memorable campaign.
McAuley said of wide-man Amalfitano: “I don’t know who plays on the right of midfield for Marseille but he must be decent! He’s another great player that the club have found and hopefully we can tie him down to a longer contract.”
And McAuley feels that what looked like a setback for Berahino may have proved a blessing in disguise. He added: “He has had a bad injury but in a funny way it’s probably done him good because he’s been in the gym and done a lot of hard work and got himself in fantastic shape.”
