Albion hot-shot Saido Berahino is set stay at The Hawthorns for now – but the Baggies could send the young striker out on loan before Christmas.
Berahino is set to remain with Steve Clarke’s squad for the time being after marking his full debut with a Capital One Cup hat-trick against Newport County and netting two goals in as many games for England Under-21s.
But Clarke has not ruled out a spell on loan for the 20-year-old, who is working his way back from the knee injury that ended his stint at Peterborough last season.
“The emergency loan window is open until December so there’s no rush,” said Clarke. “I want to keep him around the squad. He deserves that for now as he’s been good for us.
“I want to keep him involved and make sure physically he’s OK. If in five or six weeks’ time he has not had enough football then we’ll have a decision to make.”
Meanwhile, the Baggies have postponed George Thorne’s proposed comeback after eight months out with a ruptured cruciate ligament. He was due to figure for Albion’s under-21s at
Arsenal tonight but Clarke said: “George will not be able to figure due to a minor knock. We’ve decided not to risk him unnecessarily.”
