Youssouf Mulumbu today claimed he is primed for his best season yet at Albion after upping his game again this summer.
The fans’ favourite reckons he is a ‘different player’ after adding composure and cleverness ahead of his fifth full season at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies launch their top-flight campaign at home to Southampton today with Mulumbu again expected to play a major role.
“This year is different for me because I know the league better and I am more experienced on the pitch,” said the 26-year-old DR Congo international.
“In this pre-season I have thought and worked differently and focused more on passing than I used to.
“I think I’m a different player. I am really happy because I progressed every year and I can feel it again.
“I am more confident and have more composure in my game. I’m more clever now and I’m looking forward to showing that this year.”
Albion have finished 11th, 10th and eighth in the last three seasons and are looking to secure an unprecedented fifth successive year in the Premier League by surviving again.
And Mulumbu believes fans should be excited about the coming campaign, which begins with a home game against the Saints and a trip to Everton next Saturday.
“I hope they will be behind us like they usually are and I’m excited because we’ve got a good side,” said Mulumbu.
“I know the team needs to progress but we have progressed every year.
“The targets have to be high. We need to play with ambition and we can do that.”
