Boss Steve Clarke today challenged his midfielders to share the goalscoring burden as Albion look to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku.
Clarke hopes summer signing Nicolas Anelka will help his side create more chances this season with fellow strikers Shane Long, Markus Rosenberg and Matej Vydra hoping to cash in.
But Clarke also wants his midfield men to chip in more as they look to replace the 17 goals on-loan Lukaku scored last term.
“I would love to think that there’s one of the strikers that can get 15-20 goals and that would be fantastic,” said Clarke.
“If not then we will have to share it around a little bit. Sometimes if you have a striker who you rely on getting your goals, you tend to not get the input from other players.
“Last year if you look at the goals from midfield, there probably weren’t enough.
“We scored a lot through the forwards and we got a lot through set-plays but we didn’t get enough from midfield.”
