Shane Long a major doubt for Swansea clash

West Brom striker Shane Long is a major doubt for Saturday’s home clash with Swansea – but captain Chris Brunt looks set to return.

Brunt returned to training today following the ankle injury that kept him out of the 1-0 defeat at Chelsea and the Baggies expect him to be ready to face the Swans.

But Long has aggravated the ankle problem he sustained in the home win against Sunderland and looks likely to miss the weekend clash at the Hawthorns.

Boss Steve Clarke said: “Chris has trained this week so he is back. The one unfortunate thing for us is that Shane, who played last week with a bad ankle, has aggravated it through the week.

“He trained Monday and Tuesday but, unfortunately, he didn't train today, is doubtful for tomorrow and doubtful for the weekend as well, so that is a bitter loss for us.”

But Clarke hopes Long will recover in time for the trip to Stoke on March 16 and expects him to figure in Ireland’s World Cup qualifiers at the end of March.

“I’m sure he will be selected for the Ireland squad,” said Clarke. “I’m ever the optimist.

“I haven’t ruled him out for the weekend but he is on the doubtful side.

“I’m sure the Irish will pick him for the squad and hopefully he will be involved next weekend at Stoke.”

Romelu Lukaku is back at the weekend after being ineligible to face Chelsea and Goran Popov is available after suspension.

About time we sold him on, as i said last week he is injury prone, and he`s not that good anyway.

Due to the fact 'Baggie ( 'wolf' ) boy' can only speak 'dinglish', he's asked me to translate wot he sez, so-

'sold him on' means 'nobody wants to buy wolves players',

'injury prone' means 'Jaime o'Hara',

and 'not that good any way' is one of many terms for 'the wolves squad'.

And the term 'heading for division one' in dinglish translates to 'you bet we are.......' :)

Yeah, but what about them lot losing there shirt deal with Sporting Bet at the end of the season, I mean that really is something to worry about wouldn't you say, I mean it didn't compare to our deal anyway, but, realistically how much will a third tier team get in sponsorship? £2.55 and a bag of chips? and them needing every penny at the moment too.

yes baggieboy, just be glad you follow a team with no REAL worries

Sleepy wolf

Ha ha only one of ours would make such a comment about one of the one of the most hard working, unsung strikers in the premier league. See you at Nottingham tomorrow......

Baggieboy Roy

We will miss Shane Long on Saturday against Swansea. Hope you recover soon Shane.

Hopefully Rom will be back and this may be a good time to start with Peter Odemwingie who will have the opportunity to repay the fans with a couple of goals!

COYB. Keep the faith!

KEV R WBA

only lakaku or pete O to stick in then ! what a blow!

Brummie roader Ryan

Long is starting to turn into an injury prone!

Not his fault i know he must be more frustrated than the fans.

As much as I like him does he score enough goals? (6)

he also seems to go down a little easy is it because of his small frame?

He reminds me a lot of Kevin Doyle are very similar players except Shane is Quicker.

Jack ♣ Hat.

Bring on Osaze to partner Romelu up front, then it is Chris wide right and Jerome wide left ( Any which way with those two ) as we will need width. That little lot will stop Swansea defenders joining the attack. Same again defence with Mulumbu and Yacob just in front. rest Mr. Morrison for this one.

Nice to pretend to pick the team, ay et.

Although this is a blow for us I feel this may be a game lukaku would have more impact.

Hope he ain't out for too long mind.

Evening all,

bit of a blow but......start with Lukaku and St Peter out right if he Long does not make it and we do have good back up on the bench. Hope Brunt does play - with our first choice team fit (for the most part) we can give Swansea a proper good game and get the points.

Feeling positive about this.

We Only Need One Half!

Thats a blow, need everyone on top of their game for Swansea visit, even the ball boys!!!! ;-)

He's an unlucky man, he's not had a clean bill of health for ages. Although I think set pieces is the way forward this weekend as Swansea normally out pass us.

astleistheking,

We have to be sharp out of the blocks mate, not the time for a tentative start. Practice pace is a no no. Lets hope every squad player has honed his edge. Sharp as a dye and strike faster than a Rattlesnake. Now are you ready?. Bring it on.

It makes you realise how things constantly change in football-

towards the end of last year, Shane was probably our top striker, and by January P.O. looked on his way out of the club, with Chelsea also considering the recall of Lukaku-

now Shane's struggling with injuries, and possibly some loss of form, so Romelu and Pete are currently our most dangerous threat up front - and with the pair valued at 20 mil.+, they'd have been difficult to replace during the transfer window.

And that's why I never look too far ahead, you can deal with what's happening now, but nobody's got a clue how things are gonna turn out tomorrow, so why worry abaht it.........

baggieboy

Why not give Rosenburg a chance, or will he wait till we play Arsenal, Man city or united.

We Only Need One Half!

I don't baggieboy, why don't Wolves bring Griffiths, there top scorer back when they are so desperate for goals? what do you think?

p.s. I had heard its because he refuses to play for his own club! can you imagine?

Jack ♣ Hat.

baggieboy,

The same as why you don't give your brain a chance, or wait until you have something decent to remark about, I suppose.

It's a blow but I believe we can win with Romu up front and a Brunty back in the midfield with Dozza and Mozza. Wouldn't be suprised to see PO come on and score a late winner.

Swansea are a good team but so are we - should be a belter !!
