West Brom defender Steven Reid today hailed the impact of Romelu Lukaku and admitted the on-loan Chelsea teenager has exceeded all of the club's expectations.

Lukaku hit his 10th Baggies goal in Monday's 2-0 win at Liverpool despite starting just 11 times in the Premier League.

And Reid believes Steve Clarke's side are reaping the rewards of Chelsea's decision not to recall the 19-year-old in January.

Reid admitted: "He's been amazing, a lot better than I thought he would be. Chelsea decided to loan him out, they decided not to recall him, which we are happy about.

"We saw just how good he can be on Monday at Liverpool. Rom tore them apart when it got more open, just as he did in the first game of the season when he also came on as a substitute.

"The longer you can stay in the game and defend well there is always a chance you can bring on some pace, which is what we did with Rom. When we did attack and counter-attack we had some chances.

"He caused Liverpool real problems and could have had one or two more."

Lukaku has already revealed his desire to stay at the Hawthorns for another season as he looks to push his claims for the Belgium side at the 2014 World Cup.

The Baggies have dismissed suggestions that the former Anderlecht hitman's loan includes an option for an extension.

And his future could depend on the fate of interim Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez in the summer.

But Reid said: "Hopefully, next season there will be a scenario where we can keep him for another year.

"Chelsea tend to go with one up front. They have Fernando Torres already, they signed Demba Ba.

"Maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing for them for Rom to get more games under his belt and, if so, hopefully he could do that with us.

"It would be great to keep hold of him for another year."
