West Brom plan talks with Peter Odemwingie

West Brom are planning fresh talks with Peter Odemwingie over his Hawthorns future as they await a shock bid from Crystal Palace to take the rebel striker on loan.

moreSenior Baggies officials will hold further discussions with Odemwingie and his representatives in a bid to thrash out an end to their war of words.

But the talks will be held with Albion bracing themselves for a move from Championship promotion-chasers Crystal Palace to take the 31-year-old on loan for the rest of the season.

Blackburn are also expected to return with an offer for winger Jerome Thomas once the loan window reopens today, leaving the Baggies facing tough decisions on two of their unsettled stars.

Albion are continuing to speak to Odemwingie in an effort to reintegrate the Nigeria international into the squad after he upset team-mates and management with his transfer-window Twitter rants and his deadline-day drive to QPR to seal a £60,000-a-week move that had not been agreed by the Baggies.

But they are yet to find common ground with Odemwingie over his key grievances.

The club's leading Premier League goalscorer remains upset at criticism he received during Roy Hodgson's reign about his slow recovery from injury.

And he believes he was unfairly vilified for driving to Loftus Road last Thursday – he is adamant the Baggies led him to believe a deal would be finalised in the final hours of the window.

Palace are ready to offer Odemwingie a way out with Eagles boss Ian Holloway willing to spend some of the £10m down-payment he raised from the sale of Wilfried Zaha. Palace are willing to offer a substantial loan fee to take Odemwingie for the remainder of the season as well as a further payment should they clinch promotion to the Premier League, plus clauses that could lead to a permanent deal.

Holloway today confirmed his interest but doubted whether a move was possible.

"Someone contacted the chairman. I was asked if I would want him and I said yes, but I don't think he's a realistic target for us personally."

Odemwingie's exit would leave Albion restricted to the free-agent market should they need a replacement.

His departure could leave boss Steve Clarke painfully short of attacking options with summer signing Markus Rosenberg yet to make an impact and Shane Long's condition still to be assessed after he limped off last night in Ireland's 2-0 victory against Poland.

Odemwingie looks certain to leave permanently in the summer, but his weekly wage of around £37,000 could prove a stumbling block for Palace.

Another man holding an Albion meeting today was Goran Popov who apologised to team-mates for spitting at Tottenham defender Kyle Walker.

The Macedonia left-back was shown a straight red card for his actions in the 1-0 defeat to Spurs at The Hawthorns, and was handed a three-match suspension which will begin with Monday's trip to Liverpool.

Popov, who will face disciplinary action from Clarke and is likely to be fined two weeks' wages, admitted his behaviour was out of character.

"The players were angry after the game, and some of them – the ones who have been a long time at this club – said to me they are disappointed in me," said Popov. "I want to say sorry to all my friends, team-mates, to all the physical staff and the coaching staff. Everyone can make mistakes, life is like this.

"Sunday was not good. When I saw it on the video after the game I saw that. I want to say sorry to everyone who works at this club. I don't want all the fans, players, trainers and staff to change their mind about me. I'm not that kind of player.

"If I was like that I would not come here and say sorry to everyone. Never in my career have I had a straight red card like this.

"I just want to say a big sorry to everyone, firstly to the gaffer because he was so angry after the game and, if I was in his place, I would be exactly the same, and to all the players."

Popov will make a personal apology to England international Walker later this week.

He added: "I'm trying to get a phone number for Kyle Walker. When I get his number I will call him and just say 'I'm not a player like this, I didn't want to do this to him and a big sorry'.

"This is not good for me because over the last two or three nights I have not slept too good."
