Cyrille Regis on West Brom and Odemwingie

West Brom legend Cyrille Regis today told Peter Odemwingie he must "face the music" with Baggies fans – but insisted the disgraced striker can earn forgiveness with goals.

Odemwingie returned to fitness training yesterday after being sent home last week in the wake of his deadline-day drive to QPR and his online criticism of the club and fans.

Now Regis believes the Nigeria international will have to earn the forgiveness of supporters once he convinces angry boss Steve Clarke to recall him.

Some of Odemwingie's team-mates were also upset with his actions with a picture leaked of a QPR shirt hung on his locker at the club's Great Barr training ground.

But Regis said: "I think his team-mates will just take the mickey out of him.

"There will be a bit of banter and they will tear strips off him permanently. That's footballers.

"Some of them might have done the same thing in his position. But how the Albion fans will react, I just don't know.

"They have known since the beginning of the season that he didn't want to be there but now it's gone public that his heart is not at West Brom.

"All football fans love a player who loves the club and it's clear now that he wants out. It's a massive problem for Steve Clarke. Does he put him on the bench? Does he start him?

"For any fan, whether they sympathise with him or are against him, it will be about his performances.

"If he goes out there and scores goals, like he did against Villa in a crucial situation, you would hope that the Albion fans, who are fantastic, will forgive him."
