West Brom today sent Peter Odemwingie home from training after the rebel striker launched an astonishing new blast at the club over his bitter transfer row.

Odemwingie spent 40 minutes at the Baggies' training ground before leaving, telling the Express & Star he would return to work next week.

The Nigeria international, who was branded "unprofessional" by chairman Jeremy Peace today after driving to Queens Park Rangers to negotiate a move without Albion's permission.

The 31-year-old held talks with outgoing sporting & technical director Dan Ashworth today in the latest twist to the bizarre transfer saga.

Odemwingie said: "I had a good chat with Dan this morning and the club will say more later. I have been given a few days off but I will be back in training next week."

Odemwingie drove to QPR last night to clinch a move but West Brom then insisted he did not have permission to speak to the London club, as no fee had been agreed between the clubs.

Chairman Jeremy Peace later blasted Odemwingie, who was interviewed on television outside Loftus Road, speaking about the move.

Peace described the saga as "an unsavoury affair" and said: "As our sporting & technical director (designate) Richard Garlick has repeatedly said in recent days, we had no need or desire to sell our core players.

"The only way we would have considered letting Peter leave was if an acceptable offer was forthcoming and if we had found a suitable replacement at relatively short notice.

"Neither materialised and, in the end, the matter became a point of principle as much as anything.

"Peter has acted wholly unprofessionally. He must now accept the fact he remains under contract for a further 18 months and has to focus on his Albion commitments."

But Odemwingie today attempted to turn the tables on West Brom as an angry war of words erupted.

The Nigeria international insisted he would "build bridges" with his team-mates.

But the forward, who will now miss Sunday's potentially angry reception from fans at the home game against Tottenham, responded to chairman Jeremy Peace's claim he had been "wholly unprofessional" by alleging the Baggies spoke to him in 2010 before reaching a deal with Lokomotiv Moscow.

Odemwingie said: "They were not professional when I came here. They did not have permission from Lokomotiv to talk to me, but we still did the medical and I came here."

And he claimed he offered to waive half of a £300,000 sum in unpaid bonuses to help ease through a move to Loftus Road, during talks with the outgoing Ashworth.

He said: "I have a bonus of £300,000 and I offered him half and he turned that down. I don't believe this is anything about money. I don't know what happened there. There was a misunderstanding.

"The club got angry that I went there and appeared on TV. They were not angry that I went there but when it came up on TV that is when they said that the deal was off.

"I understand the club. It is unfortunate but we all know our position and we were almost there. I will stay and I had a great time here.

"There were a few difficult moments but the difficult moments cannot overshadow the happiness I have had here and the fans who have supported me."

Odemwingie looked set to join QPR in a swap deal involving winger Junior Hoilett, but West Brom pulled out when Rangers refused to let Hoilett leave.

By then, Odemwingie was on his way to London and was interviewed on TV speaking about his move, forcing West Brom to issue a statement insisting he did not have permission to speak to the Premier League strugglers.
