Long: I'm going nowhere in January sales

Albion favourite Shane Long has told any would-be suitors to forget it as he revels in life at The Hawthorns.

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - West Bromwich Albion v Manchester City - The Hawthorns

As one of the star turns of the Baggies first months of the campaign, the Ireland international has been the subject of speculation.

But the 25-year-old wants nothing to do with such distractions as he focuses on continuing the most successful spell of his career to date.

Asked about stories linking – among others – Liverpool to his name he said: “I’m not looking at that. I just concentrate on my football. I am enjoying playing this role.

“It’s a lone striker’s job, but when you’ve got the likes of Zoltan Gera and James Morrison behind you, it’s very enjoyable.

“I’m happy at the moment and I’ll let the rumours take care of themselves. It’s flattering but West Brom is a big club as well and I’m enjoying being part of what should be a great season.”

And Long says the Baggies are refusing to panic about the three-game losing sequence which has followed the four-game winning run.

It has seen the club drop from third to sixth – but eyeing the chance to get back in forward motion with successive home games against West Ham and Norwich.

He said: “We don’t dwell on it too much. The only bad performance we really put in was the first half against Swansea.

“Against Stoke it was just a horrible game and at Arsenal two dubious penalties cost us.

“We will learn from our mistakes but we’re confident we can get back winning pretty soon. Maybe we took our foot off the gas a little bit and that midweek game at Swansea knocked us back a bit, but against Stoke and at Arsenal we felt we could win the game.

“We’ve still got that confidence in us so hopefully we will get that break or a little rub of the green  and maybe get that winning feeling back.

“We’re still fairly comfortable in the league but we want to be looking at the teams above us and trying to hang onto them rather than looking down. West Ham are doing pretty well this season and they’re going to give their all but hopefully we can  cause them problems.”

KEV R pride of midlands!!! (wba)

and what footballer would want to leave a club who are above liverpool anyway with 2 home games next!

You have to love this guy, you can see his dedication on the pitch. If I remember rightly he turned down a higher salary with other clubs to be with us.

A very rare breed of a player these days.

Brunt`s left peg

Nice to hear Shane, i think we should be looking to bring in a decent strike partner for you, with Odemwingie off to the Africa we are going to be left wanting.

Jack ♣ Hat.

Agree, we haven't become a bad squad overnight and all we need to do is get on the ball with our rapid, passing game which means opening the throttle some and hope for a level referee.

One million for Chris Wood!; Simon Grayson (Huddersfield) is joking surely. How much would he want for him if he were the selling party; Five million at least.

We Only Need One Half!

Apparently 1 million was the fee being rumoured if he went to Millwall to, as I said on here a few weeks ago, for that kind of money I would much rather keep him.

Long may you stay Shane

Strikes me Long as got that Baggies'ness about him, we've had a fair few over the years. And we all know who the No1 all time Baggie is, Shane take a leaf out of his book and you won't go far wrong ..... WKWWA

Just a Thought

Don't all jump on me at the same time please.

The Wo1ve5 manager has stated that there could be a surprise sale, come January. Who was Shane Longs partner before his move to the Baggies, could he be a valuable asset to our squad. Could we offload some of our nearly men in part exchange plus cash ?

No, i can't go there, we never purchase off the Vile or the Woolfies, just a thought

SC Baggie

I hope your a man of your word Shane and I'm sure you are. We really appreciate your contribution to our beloved club and hopefully you will help us to greater things. I'm sure the chairman will compensate you well for your loyalty when the time comes or sooner.

Brummie roader Ryan

Excellent player great pace, aerial ability and stamina and work rate and is lethal in the box.

He isn't technically the best that's his only downside really but he wouldn't be at the Albion if he was perfect would he?

Boing boing!

obviously Shane isn't perfect, if he was he'd be worth an absolute fortune, and be playing at Barcelona, which as we know is the only thing he'd be tempted by after playing for the Baggies.........;-)

So Shane's enjoying life at the Baggies-

what's not to like.......?

There's another reason, his Mom's a regular visitor to the Albion club shop, and she's bought Baggies shirts with Shane on 'em for everybody in his home town.

As they have no desire to purchase any more clothing, he's secretly signed an extended contract that keeps him at The Hawthorns until the clothes fall apart............:)
