Peter Odemwingie fears for West Brom place

Peter Odemwingie today revealed he fears losing his Albion place as he faces up to a hefty fine for his red card at Fulham.

The Baggies striker apologised for his kick at Cottagers full-back Sascha Riether in the first half of Saturday's 3-0 defeat.

But Odemwingie, who now faces a three-match ban for violent conduct, will be hit by sanctions from the club and fears he may struggle to regain his place when the suspension ends.

"We have a lot of good players on the bench and players that didn't even make the squad on Saturday and are very good," he said.

"I will work hard over the next couple of weeks to make sure I don't lose my position.

"But it is a worry that I might not get my starting shirt back."

Odemwingie was dismissed with his team 1-0 down to a goal by Dimitar Berbatov, whose penalty made it 2-0 before half-time with Steve Sidwell completing the scoring.

Odemwingie apologised but is now expected to be hit with a five-figure fine in line with the club's disciplinary procedure.

"I feel like I've let myself down," said the player. "It really feels very bad.

"I also let my team-mates, the club and fans down. I'm sorry."
