Loan move ruled out for Craig Dawson
Wednesday 22nd February 2012, 12:29PM GMT.
Albion boss Roy Hodgson today ruled out a loan move for young defender Craig Dawson after he signed a new long-term Hawthorns contract.
Dawson penned an improved three-and-a-half-year deal yesterday after an encouraging start to his Premier League career this season.
And Hodgson has revealed the 21-year-old will remain at The Hawthorns for the rest of the season rather than following fellow young-guns George Thorne and Saido Berahino on loan. “We will see what happens next season,” said Hodgson.
“We’ll let next season take care of itself. But we’re not interested in loaning him out now as he’s an important part of our squad. He’s been very good. He’s only been back at the club since the start of the season and we’ve been very impressed with him, his attitude, his desire and we think he’s getting better all the time.“He has a big future ahead of him and it’s good he’s committed his future to the club.”
Thorne, meanwhile, has begun a second spell on loan at Portsmouth in the Championship. And Hodgson believes a further spell at Pompey will help the England Under-20s midfielder develop his game.
“It’s good for him to get games in central midfield,” said Hodgson.
* Albion today confirmed their annual free coach trip for fans would be to the Wigan game on March 17 (3pm).
