Liam Ridgewell looks for safe route

West Brom defender Liam Ridgewell today claimed no team is too good to go down – but insisted Albion’s character will keep them clear of relegation trouble.

The Baggies return to action at home to Sunderland on Saturday looking to maintain or increase their eight-point advantage over the Premier League bottom three.

And Ridgewell, who made an impressive debut in the 5-1 derby win at Wolves, believes Roy Hodgson’s men will stay away from the drop zone providing they match their performance at Molineux.

“With this team and the capabilities of the side we can get away from trouble,” he said.

“We just need to make sure we keep going. There are teams that have been brilliant that have gone down.

“But if we keep performing like we did against Wolves, we’ll be alright.

“We’ve just got to try and buck up that home form and get that going.”

Ridgewell is preparing to meet some familiar faces when the Baggies take on the Black Cats.

The 27-year-old played under Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill at Villa and teamed up with midfielders Craig Gardner and Seb Larsson at Birmingham.
