Craig Dawson signs new Albion deal
Tuesday 21st February 2012, 11:37AM GMT.
Albion defender Craig Dawson today signed a new three-and-a-half-year Hawthorns contract.
The England Under-21 international has committed his future to the Baggies until 2015 after making an impressive first-team breakthrough this season.
Dawson signed from Rochdale for £600,000 in the summer of 2010 but spent the next year back on loan at Spotland before joining the Baggies ‘for real’ last year.
Albion head coach Roy Hodgson said: “Speaking not only personally, but on behalf of everyone at the club, we are all very happy Craig has committed his long-term future to the club. Since he joined up with the team at the start of the season he has been very impressive, both in training and games.
“We believe he has got a very bright future as a Premier League player and it’s nice that his Premier League future is going to be with Albion.”
Dawson had made six Premier League appearances this term including two as a substitute and he has also made an impressive start to life with the Under-21s, scoring four times in his first six games.
The new deal continues a meteoric rise for the 21-year-old centre-back, who was playing non-league football with Radcliffe Borough in the Unibond League less than three years ago before he joined Dale and helped his hometown club win promotion to League One.
