Busy West Brom aim to bag two signings

West Brom are braced for a frantic end to the transfer window after boss Roy Hodgson confirmed they are in talks to sign Hungary winger Szabolcs Huszti.

The Baggies hope to tie up a loan deal for the Zenit St Petersburg wideman and the permanent transfer of Liam Ridgewell before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

And they have not ruled out signing a new striker, although Russia international Pavel Pogrebnyak will not be joining this month.

Hodgson said: “There will be no moves for Pogrebnyak, but on Huszti we are in discussions with Zenit about a possible loan with an option to buy in the summer.

“We have an interest but I can’t report anything being done yet.”

Huszti is expected in England this weekend to discuss personal terms.

The 28-year-old has played for Ferencvaros, Metz, Hannover and Zenit and has more than 50 caps for his country.

Meanwhile, talks are ongoing with Birmingham over the signing of Ridgewell with indications that both clubs and the player are keen to reach an agreement.

Albion enquired with Stuttgart about striker Pogrebnyak and, while Hodgson confirmed they will not bid this month, they could revive their interest in the summer when the 28-year-old becomes a free agent.

Hodgson admitted his interest in Fulham defender Chris Baird but revealed his former club are unwilling to let the Northern Ireland international move.

And he confirmed striker Simon Cox is “not for sale”.

But Blackpool are ready to make a loan offer for out-of-favour striker Roman Bednar.

glad we’re looking at wide players. quite excited about Huszti. don’t know anything about him but our scouting staff don’t get many wrong

take or leave Ridgewell, not too bothered

always had a soft spot for Bednar. Read Holloway’s interview earlier, he says he hopes he can get Roman ‘going again’. i share his hope, good luck to ‘em both

I suppose we’ll miss out again cause JP won’t get his wallet out and I see Foster trying to make excuses for recent bad results,”we recently
had 12 players out and on one Thursday we only had 7 in for training” Huh! excuses.

If anyone can get Bednar playing and scoring again, it’s Olly. Let’s hope he goes to Blackpool.

I also hope Roman revives his career maybe the
bracing air will help can’t understand why he’s not
even got on the bench, remember Redknapp admiring
him. As regards todays game same pattern of play
same result but FA Cup sadly unimportant these days
When i saw defence selected thought we’d have problems. Difficult game next.

Yes it’s me,I’ve thrown the towel in after trying in vain to appeal for calm and being told I’m talking tosh,I must be drunk,my posts are epic’s and basically shut the truck up I’ve decided to join the other side, to see if their way really helps WBAFC and makes the players feel more comfortable playing at the Hawthorns.
They put that much effort into any anti- negativity posts and criticism of the club from JP down they’ve convinced me that’s the way to go.
I’ve ripped my song sheets up and converted my singing and support trumpet into a booing and abuse trumpet, see you at the Sunderland Game or in the Vine at 12 O’clock with Cantello.
