Simon Cox aiming to rekindle FA Cup love affair

Albion striker Simon Cox hopes to rekindle his love affair with cup goals tomorrow – and breathe life into his Premier League career into the bargain.
The Baggies forward faces Norwich at The Hawthorns looking to follow up his third-round FA Cup hat-trick by clipping the Canaries’ wings in round four.
But Cox, who has eight goals in 13 cup games in Albion colours, hopes success tomorrow could also earn him an extended period of Premier League action as Roy
Hodgson’s men are at Fulham on Wednesday before hosting Swansea next Saturday.
“I like the cups,” said the 24-year-old. “They just seem to be games I take to, for whatever reason, and the cups have been good to me since I’ve been here.
“I’ve scored a lot of goals in cups since I’ve been here and not as many in the league. But if I can get goals in the cups I’m sure that will result in goals coming in the league.
“In the previous round I did well and got a hat-trick in the Cardiff game. Now if I can go one better and get a couple more goals against Norwich on Saturday then the manager will keep faith with me against Fulham and Swansea and I can get a couple of goals there.”
Cox and his Baggies team-mates have even more incentive to overcome Norwich tomorrow as their third meeting of the season comes just two weeks after Paul Lambert’s side left The Hawthorns with three valuable Premier League points after a 2-1 win.
But Cox and Co believe they deserved more from the game and are gunning for revenge when the sides meet again in knockout action. “We have looked back at that tape and we felt we deserved at least a point from that game,” said Cox.
“Stats sometimes tell a different story to the video but we have looked at the game and statistically we were better than them.
“We had more possession, more shots and crosses, more entries into the final third. But on the day they probably had four shots and took two whereas we had five or six and only scored one. We probably got hit with a sucker punch.”
Cox hopes tomorrow’s game will see him restored to his preferred central striker role, from where he netted his treble to knock out Cardiff. But after filling a wide midfield role in both the Premier League defeat at Tottenham and the weekend win at Stoke, he is happy to be used anywhere.
“I don’t know if you would call me ‘Polyfilla’ but at the moment it’s about getting in the team and as it stands I’m in,” he said.
“Whether I play on the right wing, the left wing or up front, I’m happy to play. We’ve got injuries to good players at the moment and that has let me get a foot in the door.”
Cox is likely to start in a slightly altered Baggies line-up from the one that began the victory in the Potteries. But he believes that win – Albion’s first away success against Stoke for 30 years – will send the whole club into Cup action brimming with belief.
“It was a terrific result and the lads put in a very good, high-class performance,” he said. “It was a win for the supporters because it had been such a long time since
West Brom had beaten Stoke. We understood their pain and we went out there to do it not just for our position in the league, but for the sake of the supporters as well.”
Albion expect a reduced attendance for tomorrow’s game after just 12,545 fans made it to the win over Cardiff.
But tomorrow’s crowd will be swelled by the presence of more than 3,200 Canaries fans.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
