West Brom today stepped up their pursuit of Liam Ridgewell as Hungarian winger Szabolcs Huszti and Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak emerged as potential targets.

The Baggies are also keeping tabs on Fulham full-back Chris Baird but Ridgewell still appears the most likely defensive recruit before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

And the transfer focus again shifted abroad today with reports from Europe naming Zenit St Petersburg's Huszti and Stuttgart forward Pogrebnyak as possible recruits.

Hodgson is keen to add wide midfield options to his squad with Zoltan Gera ruled out for the season and captain Chris Brunt facing another two months in the treatment room.

Uruguayan winger Cristian Rodriguez, of Porto, remains a target but Lazio are reportedly plotting move for him, leaving the Baggies to look elsewhere.

And Zenit are ready to send 28-year-old Huszti out on loan with French side Monaco also said to be monitoring him.

Huszti has previously played for Hannover and has 51 Hungary caps.

Meanwhile, German sources claim the Baggies have made an enquiry about Pogrebnyak, whose contract expires this summer.

Stuttgart, however, are keen to recoup a transfer fee this month while Albion are keener to do loan deals before Tuesday's deadline.

The 30-cap Russia centre-forward, aged 28, is a former Zenit striker.
