Albion Reserves 2 Swansea Reserves 0

Youngster Kemar Roofe and Romaine Sawyers were on target as Albion moved level on points with Villa at the top of the Premier Reserve League (South).

Albion trail their local rivals only on goal difference after a goal in each half saw off the Swans at the Baggies’ Great Barr training ground.

January signing Scott Allan made his first appearance in Albion colours while Marton Fulop, Gonzalo Jara Reyes, Joe Mattock, George Thorne and Sam Mantom all started.

Albion struck after eight minutes when left winger Roofe burst down the flank and played a neat one-two with Mantom before beating keeper Jose Moreira with a low shot.

Albion started the second half strongly and doubled their lead on 49 minutes.

Thorne’s incisive through-ball found Sawyers in the box and the young striker twisted away from Moreira before bending a shot inside the far post.

Allan, who looked neat in possession but in need of extra fitness, should have marked his first Baggies game with a goal on 55 minutes but drove wide with the goal gaping.

And in the closing stages Sawyers fired just over the bar after more good work on the left from Roofe.
