FA review Crouch’s ‘eye poke’ on Olsson

Peter Crouch could face a three-match ban for his clash with Albion’s Jonas Olsson after the FA confirmed they will review his apparent ‘eye poke’.

An FA disciplinary panel will examine replays of the incident during the Baggies’ 2-1 win on Saturday.

And the former England striker could face a three-match suspension if charged with violent conduct.

The pair argued over a Stoke penalty appeal during the first half and TV cameras appeared to show Crouch attempt to poke his fingers in Olsson’s eye.

The off-the-ball incident went unnoticed by referee Anthony Taylor, but video evidence could now see Crouch punished.

Midfield star James Morrison, meanwhile, today urged Albion to use the FA Cup to kick-start their dismal home form.

The Scotland international is targeting a Cup adventure to match the ’ 2008 run to a Wembley semi-final against Portsmouth.

Morrison reckons victory over Norwich in Saturday’s fourth-round tie at The Hawthorns could also help inspire improved fortunes at home, where Albion have won just twice this season.

“A cup-tie can always change the fortunes of a season,” said Morrison. “If you’re on a bad run and you win a cup game it can change things.”

I also hope Crouch gets his comeuppance, then it will show others, there is no reason to roll about like a stupid kid when fouled to gain the officials attention. The Italians can keep their dramatics and leave the men to play our ball game. Well done ALBION for their part in bringing him to book. “Fairness in Football” is the battle cry.

Although I can see where the first three posts are coming from, if he does get a 3 match ban that benefits us how? it just helps the next three teams Stoke play, one of which is Man Utd, because they really need the help don’t they! If these punishments are to be given retrospectively, has there seems to be an increasing trend towards, surely the fairest way would be if one of the matches the player is banned from should be reserved for next time the two teams in question meet. Scenario, Rooney does something in first 5 minutes of a game, and then subsequently receives 3 match ban after the game, those three games could be against teams your club are competing against for a European spot, relegation, even the title, it seems unfair the advantage is handed to everyone, except the team sinned against. Radical thinking I know, but I think its a valid point. Alternatively, we could just bite the bullet, get bloody cameras and a decent ref’s and have done with it!

That is a useful proposal but the punishment also needs to punish the club whose player commits the offence. For example if a player does this and the next 3 matches are against those they are competing against in a relegation battle; not to have a ban but to wait for our next game, may be beneficial to the club in question. Also it may actually mean that we don’t see that club or player for 2 to 3 seasons (relegation or transfers) – at what point does time elapse and the ban become ineffective.
Perhaps the club offended (in this case ourselves) can choose the matches, within the current season, that the player must miss. If one of those is against us then fine.
When you get to the end of the season then the ban would stand for the remaining 3 matches.
Either way I’m glad the incident is being looked at. I doubt Stoke will be punished, they seem to have more influence at the FA than us.

Nearly all were calling for Micks head. Speaking to a Dingle last night and he said he is finished for this season, Also stated he hates the new stand. poorly designed and takes a quarter of a hour to exit. Something about the wrong bolts were used and the isles are too narrow, beer is £4 a pint. He didn’t say how much Jezzes pies were, so I told him if you were still in the cup and that Stand was allocated to us, you would have had approximately (For Bangkoks benefit) £7 in freebies off Jezz and free Tesco bags off us. Not happy chappies are they.
The F.A. will have to react if they see what I saw. Otherwise all these judgement they have made on seeing tapes will have to be rescinded.

I’m going to throw in yet another suggestion.
An incident such as this one with Crouch and Jonas, the incident with Alan Hutton and Long, tell me the offending CLUB haven’t encouraged their players to be ‘aggressive’ to whatever level can provoke a reaction.
We could have had 10 men had Jonas not been superb in self control. SO, take a point off Stoke as a punishment if this is upheld by the FA. That way, they become responsible for players’ behaviour. Something as drastic as club involvement is needed before RADA start giving Drama lessons to players.

Interesting points on how to deal with punishments, but at the end of the day the complication that could occur may prevent the FA from bothering to punish at all. The current system is fine by me, I see it as a swings and roundabouts situation, just like unjust penalty decisions, offsides and ball over the goal line incidents etc.

I just glad that the FA have taken note and hope they deal with him as harshly as possible.

    10) Jack & 15) baggiescomeon, before this season, (although its been heading towards the situation we now find ourselves in for many a year) I would have probably agreed with your statement, about swings and roundabouts, but not any more. Look how many penalties we have conceded, (do we still have the record for this season? on paper, thanks to refing decisions, we must be one of the dirtiest teams in the league????) then look how many ones in identical situations by the “big boys” that have not been given.
Same with red and yellow cards, Wolves are a good example, Nenad Milijas, 3 match ban for a tackle, which in my opinion we have seen far, far worse going totally unpunished, and, even though the F.A. looked at it in hindsight, and with no pressure like a ref can be under, still managed to come to the same conclusion, and then, as if just to prove the point I am trying to make, along comes Lampard, against a Wolves player, with a tackle that there was no question (by his own admission after the game I might add) should easily have been a sending off, and in my humble opinion was ten times worse than Milijas’s, and he gets a yellow, and lives to play the next “3″ games. Ergo, I can no longer concur that it all evens itself out in the end any more.

So the F.A has decided not to discipline Crouch as the referee has said that having reviewed the incident he “wouldn’t of given Crouch a red card had he of seen it at the time”

Here’s me thinking that in modern day football if ANYBODY raises their hands and makes any contact with another players face then they will either be sent off at the time or face a retrospective ban for the charge of violent conduct (i.e. Tamas V Norwich)

These double standards from the F.A don’t even come as a surprise to me anymore; maybe they just think its only ‘little old Albion’ so it doesn’t matter. Now it goes without saying that IF Olsson or any other Albion player for a fact would of committed the same offence against ANY team I’m 100% certain they would be sitting in the stands for the following 3/4 games without any hesitation.

All I know is that championship football now looks slow and deliberate to me.

Since I moved to sit near the pitch, middle of the East Stand, and Albion have put more quality in their squad, the football looks on another level.
I still find it hard to take in the speed and quality of what’s played in front of me,it just looks a class apart from what we used to see at The Hawthorns.
I just think that some people have short memories, and forget where we’ve come from since the 80′s and 90′s.

    As for the Crouch incident-

Bully said at post 5 exactly what I thought, and sure enough it’s turned out that way.
I remember Bob Taylor once being sent off because he squared up to somebody, and the Ref. said he ‘looked like he MIGHT nut the other guy’,although neither player made physical contact, and neither one had moved when the card was shown.
