Wife Laraine Astle, daughters Claire Astle and Dorice Mottram and grandson Bradley Pickersgill, aged four, mark the anniversary of Jeff Astle’s death today

West Bromwich Albion legend Jeff Astle’s family gathered at The Hawthorns today to mark the 10th anniversary of his death.

Baggies faithful paid tribute to the beloved striker with floral tributes and flags attached to the Astle Gates.

Flags at the stadium were also flown half-mast. His widow Laraine, and three daughters Dorice, Dawn, Claire and grandson Bradley said they were touched by the tributes.

Mrs Astle said: “It helps us enormously. It tells us he’s not forgotten.”

Jeff died from injuries sustained during his football career. Mrs Astle has called for the FA to pay compensation.

He died in 2002 aged 59, with a coroner ruling he had suffered serious brain damage through repeatedly heading heavy leather balls.

Astle is and always will be KING!
What a lovely man, who will be remembered as a fantastic footballer, a great bloke and a Baggies legend & fan!
His family too are a credit to him.
I still miss his joking around which he carried on well after his footy days were over and when climbing ladders replaced climbing above defenders!!!!
