Scott Allan will go straight into Albion’s first-team squad if he completes his £400,000 move from Dundee United.

The Scotland Under-21 midfielder travelled to the Baggies training ground yesterday for talks with boss Roy Hodgson and to undergo a medical.

And Hodgson hopes the 20-year-old will agree personal terms in the next few games before joining the Baggies’ senior players and competing for a first-team place.

“He is one of the most exciting talents in Scottish football,” said Hodgson.

“It would be harsh to demand that he steps on the training field on a Monday and is the best player on Saturday.

“But certainly he would come into the first-team squad straight away and we would see what kind of impact he could make.

“I’m sure it would turn out to be a very interesting signing if he passes the medical and if the other negotiations go well and he decides we’re the club for him.”

Meanwhile, Hodgson is hopeful his injury crisis will begin to ease before next Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Norwich after Paul Scharner became an eighth senior player in the treatment room.

The Austria international is being treated for a sore Achilles tendon and was ruled out of today’s FA Cup meeting with Cardiff along with Steve Reid (ankle), Jonas Olsson (calf), Youssouf Mulumbu, Jerome Thomas (both groin), Chris Brunt (ankle), Zoltan Gera (knee) and Shane Long (back).

Gera has been ruled out for the rest of the season, Brunt will be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks and Reid is still around a fortnight away from a comeback. But Hodgson believes the rest all have a chance to be fit to face the Canaries.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
