No Peter Odemwingie rift for boss

Roy Hodgson today insisted his relationship with Peter Odemwingie is solid after clear-the-air talks.
Odemwingie was back in the West Brom squad for today’s meeting with Tottenham at The Hawthorns as Hodgson attempted to draw a line under a week of friction.
The Nigeria international has trained for the past two days and is believed to have chatted to Hodgson before yesterday’s session just hours after posting pictures of his injured knee on Twitter as a response to the head coach’s comments about his lack of action this season.
“I regard Peter as a very good player, I don’t have any problems with our relationship and I’d be surprised if he said he had a problem,” said Hodgson, who earlier this week admitted his frustration at Odemwingie’s recovery time.
“He might have taken umbrage with something that’s been written which I said and perhaps he is entitled to take umbrage.
“But I did not go out of my way to criticise him.
“You’d have to ask him whether it’s damaged his perception of our relationship, but it hasn’t damaged mine.
“He has trained with a smile on his face. He was back to the old Peter.
“I don’t know what these (Twitter) pictures are and those things don’t really interest me.
“Peter doesn’t need to take too much notice of my frustrations with him because I get frustrated with everyone, including myself.”
Hodgson also defended the club’s medical staff after midfielder Paul Scharner accused them on Facebook of ‘not telling the truth’ about the extent of his knee problem.
The injury was described mistakenly as a “grade one strain” by former assistant boss Michael Appleton and that information was repeated this week on the club’s website, upsetting Scharner.
Hodgson said: “The medical department never lies about injuries.
“He has to be very careful about saying those things because there is no question ever of our medical department lying.”
However, Hodgson played down any concerns about players using social media despite being forced to field questions yesterday about his players’ comments.
“Whatever players want to put on their own social networking sites they can put on,” he added. “It doesn’t affect me one bit.”

I like most were sceptical when I first read this, thinking that it was just a slow news day and E&S were looking for a story, however, around 9.30pm on the Danny Kelly show, Thursday night, Chris Lepkowski, who had been at this interview confirmed what the E&S has stated. Furthermore, Lepkowski stated that Roy was quite vociferous in his condemnation of Peter, and it was given by Roy totally unprompted. Looks like he is very frustrated with Peter indeed.

There it is then shock horror. Roy is a grown up, he treats his players as adults. End of story.
