West Brom attacking Tottenham is the best policy for Nicky Shorey
Friday 25th November 2011, 12:45PM GMT.
West Brom left-back Nicky Shorey today insisted attack is the best policy as they go gunning for Tottenham.
The Baggies aim to make it back-to-back wins tomorrow for the first time since the derby victories over Wolves and Villa last month.
To achieve their aim, they must beat a Spurs side who have won seven of their last eight Premier League games.
But Shorey feels attack will be the best form of defence against Harry Redknapp’s side after revealing a meeting and series of video nasties did the trick.
The former Villa and Reading defender said: “The gaffer has been on at us to do that. He was disappointed at Arsenal and against Liverpool that we didn’t play the games we usually play in training.
“We watched videos, had a re-jig and we saw some of the fruits of that against Bolton last weekend. If we sit back against Tottenham then it will be a long, long afternoon.
“We can’t go booting it long, we have to pass it around, play our natural game. If we do that, we’ll get chances.”
Shorey warned West Brom it will not be easy, adding: “Tottenham are flying. They’re great to watch so it will be tough. But we’re coming off a very good result and performance.
“What we must not do is sit back and let them play and just defend. We need to do what we did in the second half against Bolton and get forwards. We will respect Tottenham but, equally, we have to ask questions of them.
“That won’t be easy, especially now they have Scott Parker in front of their back four, but that is what we have got to try to do.”
