James Morrison urges West Brom to ‘get in the faces’ of Tottenham
Friday 25th November 2011, 1:50PM GMT.
West Brom midfielder James Morrison today urged the Baggies to “get in the faces” of Tottenham in a bid to recreate last season’s upsets against the big guns.
Roy Hodgson’s men face Spurs at the Hawthorns tomorrow looking to follow up their victory against Bolton by beating one of the top flight’s Champions League challengers.
And Morrison believes the Baggies must recreate the performances that brought victories against Arsenal and Liverpool and a draw at Manchester United last season.
He said: “That form was the key to our success in the league last season, picking up points where we shouldn’t have.
“We’ve got to try to get back to that form and that means getting back to the way we played against those teams.
“We have to try to put that in place again tomorrow, although it’s never easy because we are playing against a top team.
“Having three in midfield helped us a bit last season, but it was mainly about high pressure and getting in their faces. We have to keep the ball and take our chances.
“Of course, you have to defend well against the big teams but normally you can catch them on the break because they are so dominant with the ball that they do leave gaps.”
Morrison looks set to keep his place in the heart of the midfield tomorrow, pitting him against the highly-acclaimed duo of Scott Parker and Luka Modric.
The Scotland international said: “Parker seems to be like a fine wine, getting better with age. He had a great season at West Ham and he has continued that.”
