West Brom captain Chris Brunt backs Zoltan Gera for serious impact

West Brom captain Chris Brunt is tipping Zoltan Gera to make a serious impact at the Hawthorns before the year is out after the midfielder’s return to international duty.

Fit-again Gera, having got back to action with the Baggies at Arsenal in their last match, got some more valuable game time under his belt as he started for Hungary in their 5-0 win over Lichtenstein on Friday.

Gera, having fought a long battle to overcome a knee injury, is poised to follow that up against Poland tonight before returning for club duties.

And Brunt has seen enough of his old midfield partner to be convinced of his continued value to the cause.

The skipper said: “It was good to see ‘Zolly’ back against Arsenal. He’s a great character but obviously lacking a bit of match fitness at the moment.

“Hopefully after the international break we’ll see the kind of Zoltan Gera we saw during his last spell at the club.”
