West Brom boss Roy Hodgson cranks up heat on Liverpool’s Kenny Dalglish

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson today geared up for his Liverpool reunion by claiming Kenny Dalglish is under pressure to restore the club to the Champions League.

Hodgson believes the Reds’ big spending since he was replaced by Kenny Dalglish in January has cranked up pressure for a top-four finish at Anfield.

Liverpool have spent more than £100million in transfer fees since Dalglish returned for a second spell as manager and Hodgson believes the investment of new owner John W Henry has fuelled expectation.

The Baggies head coach said: “That’s what the investment is for. I don’t think the new owners are investing all this money for them to be a mid-table team.”

King Kenny has already restored Liverpool`s waning image and has also managed to unify the club. What Roy Hodgson must admit is that the problems Kenny inherited were mainly created by Roy`s inability to manage a club like Liverpool. The signings Roy Hodgson made as Liverpool manager and also the players that Liverpool were being linked with in his short but destructive stint are players that Roy works with in his relegation battles. With all due respect to Hodgson and the clubs he normally manages, relegation battles is Roy`s bread and butter and he should have never been brought to a club the size of Liverpool.

    Christopher,

Clearly Hodgson’s time at the club was not a successful one and, as time progressed, Hodgson was often the archetype of his own downfall. However, the club itself must take a proportion of the blame. It was a club in minor crisis when he arrived. He was the ‘wrong appointment’ according to fans (vocal minority?) and had an uphill task from day one. Add to that the fact that several players were out of form and it was a recipe for disaster.

Before you defend the Liverpool fans, I have spoken to several people within the club itself (board room, former players who remain on the payroll) both pre and post-Hodgson’s departure (but before he came to Albion). They were somewhat ashamed at the way he had been treated, though admittedly rather exasperated with the team’s performances and to a degree Hodgson’s tactics.

I think everyone can agree that it was the wrong appointment. I actually agree with you that Hodgson is perhaps more suited to teams outside of the top 6. However, I find it quite sad that Liverpool fans quite literally cannot let this lie.

You’ve got your ‘King’ Kenny. You’ve spent (and in my opinion wasted) millions for a marginal improvement both in performance and results (50% win rate). You would have thought you’d be able to look forward instead of permanently back? Get over it, mate.

Liverpool will be in meltdown come the end of the season with nothing to show for King Kenny’s excessive spending on mediocrity.

What a load of rubbish. Roy was manager of Inter Milan and 2 national teams . Liverpool are a spent force and you are a glory hunter with a long memory . Liverpool glory days go back to their pass back football of the late 70 and 80′s. Actually Liverpool were probably the reason they created the no back pass rule!!!

Liverpool and Albion are so far apart in terms of expectations and finances its scary. To compare Roy’s management style at Albion and Liverpool is pointless and does nothing but provide good “Pub Chat”. Liverpool FC never allowed him the type of finances that King Kenny has been given. Carroll, Henderson and Downing have been massive disappointments and only Suarez has really shone although he is currently accused of diving and racism, The current Liverpool team is still reliant on Stevie G and Carra to try and drag them out off the doldrums and into the top 4. In reality they have maybe 5 players who would trouble Man U, Man C or Chelsea’s team (Reina, Gerrard, Suarez, Johnson and Agger) The rest are average premiership players.

No.2C.Briffa. I have read some patronising twaddle in my many years, but yours is arrogant too. “A club the size of Liverpool” suggests a current or recent finish as Premier League Champions, yet I can find none. That since 1992. Nineteen years near enough since we are not being too accurate in our claims. Liverpool WAS a very big club under Shankly and Paisley, but they have promised much and achieved little in recent times. No one remembers who came second. If King Kenny wins the Prem this season, do come back on here and I will congratulate you. I suspect though, you’ll be a runner up at best yet again. In spite of the millions spent

After personal digs at me,I suggested that he should be blocked, but he’s still being allowed to post his mindless drivel.

So I thought the least I can do at present is to ‘expose’ who he really is (as if we didn’t know),and cause him some embarrassment.

To emphasise your point I’ve posted a reply to Mr Briffa, nothing abusive or too controversial just my opinion but it dosen’t get through as seems to be the case with increasing regularity (could this be another reason for the declining number of genuine Albion posters?). It has also been stated on their site phone in, that Longs injury is not so bad as first thought. The fact that Roy was the manager of Switzerland, Finland and the United Arab Emirates does not mean that much as these countries are not considered big footballing nations. Hodgson had a brief spell at FC Internazionale in Italy but ask any Inter fan and they will tell you that he is best remembered for selling a young Roberto Carlos to Real Madrid where he developed as the best left back for a decade. The reason Roberto Carlos left Inter was because Roy insisted in playing him out of position. Anyway the reason I posted here was not to deride Hodgson or offend Baggies fans, far from it. I think he is actually doing a brilliant job there but obviously like many Liverpool fans I feel that he was the wrong choice for us and it should have never happened. I think that Roy himself agrees to this even though he ultimately picked a fat cheque for his short time at our club.

    Biffa,
Tell me do you think Hodgson would have done any worse than Dalglish if Liverpool had given him £100m to spend?. Also why did they employ Hodgson when Dalglish was already at the club?. So you see Liverpool board believed Hodson was the better of the two. They just gave way to fan pressure. So Hodgson had to go. Anyway thanks Liverpool for giving us the chance to employ him. The club he is with now are not up to their neck in debt.

It would be really interesting to know why you feel the need to post about Liverpool on a WBA site where nobody gives a flying flook what you think about Roy Hodgson.

Far from not wanting to offend anyone your original post
‘With all due respect to Hodgson and the clubs he normally manages, relegation battles is Roy`s bread and butter and he should have never been brought to a club the size of Liverpool.’
is highly offensive and if it isn’t meant to be then your level of arrogance is beyond belief.

I’m sure you’re one of the brigade of ‘nouveau’ football ‘fans’ that come along and cherry pick a club then think this gives them some sort of natural superiority over real supporters. Real supporters tend to follow their local club, yes we moan, yes we squabble with our local rivals but we also enjoy some humility (look it up in the dictionary.)

‘King Kenny’ as you call him has enjoyed the advantage of a new owner investing large sums. Roy had the old owners investing very modest sums. Dalgleish was allowed to sell the local hero Torres, there would have been uproar if Roy had done this.

I remember Liverpool as a very ordinary team in the 50′s before Shankley. I remember ‘King Kenny’ as a good forward who dived a lot in the days before it became accepted as part of the game. What goes around comes around and Dalgleish has only managed clubs with a lot of money, I wonder if his crown will wobble a bit if Liverpool don’t live up to expectations. Good win for you yesterday but we were always going to struggle playing 11 against 14.

For me one Wolves fan is worth 100 reds whatever the shade.
